K-Cup Instant Coffee

Catavenger's rant about his pizza set me up for a rant of my own.

As I've said before on here I'm a K-cup coffee drinker. Since we've had a machine last for more than a year, I love it even more. We ran low on supplies the other day and I went to Walmart because I knew they carries the K-cups and I didn't feel like driving 30 miles to our usual supplier. Since it's usually so far away when I do go I pick up 10 or 12 boxes, enough to last awhile.

When I got to Walmarts, Walmarts being Walmarts they only had 4 boxes of our usual brand on the shelf. So, I picked up a couple of boxes of some others that I knew and liked and a few boxes of other kinds just to give them a try.

When I got home I opened one of the untried boxes from Grove Square Coffee, Medium Roast and made a cup to see what it was like. It was ghastly. Probably the worst coffee I have drunk in years. I got to thinking that the K-cup rattled when I picked it up and it seemed lighter than usual. I dug the K-cup out of the machine and it felt as if it was empty. I cut the foil top off although it expressly says on it not to do that and there wasn't a darned thing in it. I dug the box out of the trash and there, in the smallest print you have ever seen in your life it says, "Contains Instant Coffee and Coffee Dust". IT WAS FREEKIN' INSTANT.

Now, it was probably my own fault for not reading all the small print on the box but if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, you expect it to be a damned duck. But here's a company that takes instant coffee, packages it in K-cups and sells it in a box just like every other K-cup manufacturer and they say that they're not trying to dupe innocent shoppers. My ass. Who do they think that they're selling to? Who do they know that goes to the expense of buying an expensive K-cup coffee machine to drink instant freekin' coffee????

Even if it's a one time impulse buy, because nobody in their right mind is going back to buy seconds, this Grove Square Coffee Company has to be making a pretty penny off unobservant idiots like me. Just another rip off.

Thank you. Rant over. I feel better.

coffee dust?? That's really close to floor sweepings
I would show the K cup people what you found.

I feel your pain. I fell for the same thing a little while back. Terrible tasting shit. The coffee crystals taste a thousand times better and that ain't saying much.

Mr. Coffee simplest maker=$13.99. Folgers big canister=$8.99. All I need or want. I do use a mesh basket instead of paper filter and throw the grounds in mom's flower beds each morning.

That is just wrong.

I have had a Keureg coffee maker for a couple years. New in the box, never opened.

Wife has a major rant about the plastic and the waste. I have a bit of a rant about the cost.

I dug it out and took it in to my downsized office (4' X 6' closet). I bought one of those refillable k-Cups. Now I get coffee for 7 cents a cup instead of two bucks at 7-11 (Yup! They have 7-11 in NYC). Not a bad deal at all.

Instant coffee and coffee dust for whatever they are charging is ludicrous. Might even be actionable.
