I have just about used up all of my adjustment on my brakes. Can I replace the brakes from the topside ie: removing the gas tank etc??? Also does anyone know where to get new brakes for this? It is a 1973.

Yes you're gonna have some removing to do, cause you have to go in the differential compartment to get those brake.
Also you need to unscrew completly the adjusting nuts on the brake levers.
Once you're inside the box, the brake bands are held in place by a pin. Remove the pins and pull on the bands, they are pretty tight fit in there. When I've done mine, prior to their removal, I had flush the oil out, that worked out a lot better and it's easier for reinstalling them. Check the state of your drums, if they weren't damage by friction from the brake rivets. For redoing the linings breing them at a brake shop for trucks or machinery. If I remember correctly it cost me around $185 two years ago.

Hey, thank you for the insight. So you worked top side just by removing the gas tank etc? Where did you get the brakes for your machine? By draining the oil, are you talking about the oil in the differential? Thanks Again.

Unfortunately you have to remove everything on top of the differential cover. Yes the oil to be drained is the differential. For the brake linings, I brought the bands to a service center for heavy equipment such as heavy trucks or equipments. If you have a dealer for construction equipment in your area, they might do it or refer you to a business that performs that type of work. A place where they rebuild clutches might do that also.
