Issues 1 and 2 in Ohio Passed

GOP needs to learn that STRICT abortion laws are will lead to election losses and, by consequence loose abortion laws. MOST, in fact the vast center of the USA, supports SOME abortion restrictions. But the GOP is favoring strict restrictions and it cost them the referendum in Ohio as well as ousting the Democratic Governor of Kentucky.

Both were beatable. But the GOP lost both because it tows a hard line on abortion (as well as pot) Voters want some limits to abortion, but not bans on it. The Democrats have been taking away gun rights for DECADES, by advancing in 'baby steps' toward their goal. The GOP NEEDS TO LEARN THIS LESSON. Take a small winn. Then pass another small win. Then another, until they get a real win. Baby steps to the goal is how Democrats get most of their legislation passed. The GOP seems to kick for the field goal or throw for the touchdown pass, but rarely advances, slow and stead down toward the goal line, accepting little victories and establishing momentum.

This applies to POT and ABORTION. Kentucky lost the governor's race based on abortion. Ohio will now protect abortion and legalize pot for recreational use despite recent medical findings that is is unhelpful.z

Virginia Democrats won BOTH the House and Senate and derailed GOP Governor Younkin's plan to turn Virginia into the next Florida by undoing Woke crap, stopping cray school policies, etc.

The elections are being seen as a canary in the coal mine for Republicans and it is not looking good. Some positions need to be moderated or compromised to win, after the win the policy can change. But if they don't win then things will get worse and worse.

Virginia was a total disaster for the GOP. They lost the house as it flipped to the Democrats. They hoped to win the Senate, but it stayed with the Democrats. Younkin, who is the GOP governor, had Presidential aspirations and was generally better liked than DeSantis, et al, was politically destroyed yesterday.

Kentucky was a disaster for the GOP in a solid red state the Democratic governor actually won by a WIDER margin, and again, all based on the issue of abortion.

With any luck the OHIO vote is a wake up call for the GOP to moderate its position on some things. Being "anti-abortion" will kill a candidate's chances in most parts of this country but calling for sane policies on abortion restrictions (start at 12 weeks) and allow for rape/incest and that could be supported by the vast majority of voters. AFTER the GOP actually gets into power it can try to restrict access further, if it feels the political winds allow it, but to swing for a home run and lose everything is clearly the wrong strategy. They have to actually WIN elections to make a difference.

Pot is a now known to cause a lot of problems, especially the new super strength marijuana hybrids common today but was unavailable in the 70's, 80's. But it also helps, in moderation, as does THC, the main 'medicinal' component of marijuana. GOP can get behind medical marijuana and still oppose recreational. Or get behind legalizing but standardizing its strength (sort of like 'proof' on alcohol, wine and beer), setting limits as to what is allowed for recreational and standardizing medicinal.

But the GOP seems to like to shoot itself in the foot.

Here is a darn good summary, from the very conservative Washington Examiner:

I agree, your not going to stop them from killing babies, if you go against it, you will lose then the Dim that won will do it anyway.

I'm pretty solidly anti abortion but I am also a political realist. The Democrats chipped away at gun rights for DECADES. They chipped away at our culture for DECADES. They got us to where we have our backs against a wall. To try to take it all back, after their policies have become deeply engrained in the victim class mentality is simply not realistic. We need to chip away at their policies to regain what we lost
