It's been a rough week here. Last Friday we had a thunderstorm. Saturday I found one circut had tripped, my laptop power supply w/ batter back up was dead (no power or battery backup from all outlets on the battery backup side of the APS thingie). Plus my router was history, my VOIP phone router was also dead, garage door opener was malfunctioning .... guessing lightning was in the vicinity. Not a direct hit but close enough to mess things up.

I've replaced my VOIP device and now it's working again and replaced the linksys primary router. So everything is working again except for my laptop. The laptop will at times get it's IP address and be able to get online, but during that online session it looses it's IP. I do a ipconfig from the command line and get nothing. Where earlier a ipconfig would show my IP address. Any ideas on what would cause the IP to come and go. I've restarted all the network services along with DHCP all to no avail. I cannot get the IP back once it's gone. I'm frustrated and probably overlooking something. Any ideas?

Clean the terminals on the card for your internet. Might have a fried dustball or just a bad connection.

Shot in the dark.. But try System Restore. That has saved my but a hundred times. And if it don't work, you can undo it.
