Informal Snowcat Club WA

Hey all you snowcat owners in Washington State. I would like to start a informal snowcat club in Washington. I live near Tacoma and think it would be fun to plan trips together. No dues or obligations. No restrictions on vehicles. I would like all snow cat owners and classic snowmobilers to respond so we can get some trips planned. There is no judgement on your vehicle. I would like all people and vehicles to respond. I think it would be fun for us to get together and travel in numbers, maybe have some lunch and share info and stories. I don't like clubs but if we don't have a formal membership we could all enjoy. Lets get together! Please send me a PM and maybe we could make this happen! Thanks guys!

Muley,

I have a Tucker sno-cat in WA, but it lives at the location I use it. It weighs a little over 7,000lbs and is not really something you tow around for a quick trip. Perhaps some of the lighter cats would be better for your informal club. Best of luck with getting group organized.

lyndon had a club going in the early 70's. If you plan on a trip someplace post or mail me. The snow is really good right now . I was up to Governent meadow area twice.

Maybe we can plan a ride in your area??

a run needs to be planned to get this thing going. Any suggestions??

To access my area, one has to use a WA State groomed trail which is on a Forest Service road. Using a snowcat on this road requires a USFS Special Use Permit which is a fairly cumbersome process. I do not usually use this road with the Tucker since there are a lot of very crazy snowmobilers who drive far too fast and drink way too much. I have had several near misses, and I think in a snowmobile at 50 MPH and a 7000lb Tucker match-up, the Tucker would win and the snowmobiler would likely not feel very good after that.

Maybe the word "club" was too strong of a word. Just thought it would be fun to get together with other snow cat owners. I believe running together is a great way to help each other as well as sharing info and stories. Power in numbers. I know I could learn alot from other owners and hopefully I could share what I've learned. Besides, I like vehicles of all kinds. My Tucker is 8 foot wide, a little over 16 feet long and over 7,000 lbs as well yet I just drive it up on my trailer, bind it down and go so I am mobile. I am lucky to have a trailer that is well balanced and tows like a dream. My cat is down as of yesterday. I was cleaning the 5th wheel guides and found that the trunion pin is broken. In my neck of the woods, if a tracked vehicle is licensed as a snowmobile, you can drive on Forest service roads that are "snowed out". This information comes directely from the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie NF website. I would never try to run groomed trails.

The snowmobile licence is for snowmobiles and mine doesn't have a ski as under the definiation of snowmobile.I licenced mine like yours but were kind of pushing it.
I am going to try to get more info on that special use permit. The local office just tells me to call someone.

i don't know about licensing i do know that in the state of alaska if the vehicle is under 4000 pounds permit's arn't required and if you go over 4 k you need land use permits from each land owner pluc a corps of engineers permit for each water crossing even if the water way is frozen wich is some of my reasoning i for running snow tracs also the nps has autherized me access to national parks up here just because the smow trac impacts the trails less than a snowmachine i just have to make an effort to stay on the snow.

wow that sounds like a good time wish i lived in washington would be a great way to see how other machines preform without having to buy them and find out they dont suite your needs ..wish i could attend , then i may be able to figure out what the thiokol/IMP fasination is all about , would love to see one up close . if i get there or not good luck putting it together im sure no one would be disappionted and everyone would love the pics .....

Hey all, new here...and in town. Hailing from Lake Tahoe. Just putting out feelers to the snowcat community seeing whats out there and what you all do.... I've worked on every major brand of cat (I'd still like to get my mitts on a Kristi). I have a shop in Gig Harbor and work on furniture mostly these days but if anyone out there needs help give a shout!
If you guys are having a hard time with the Forest Service, the number one way in that I seen work is to join or create a search and rescue team. Permits to allow for exercises and access to main trails and beyond. Plus, isn't a green sticker a green sticker?? Or is that just California??

Great responses all, JimVT is in, anyone else? Yes we are waiting for the snow to come back down but I am finally ready. That is a major thing for me having waited 4+ years to get on the snow. I still think it would be fun to get some cats together for a run. Or 2 or 3. No need to be shy or afraid. We are all friends here. Best regards.

Today I chose to buy a tag and sticker plate for my cat as a snowmobile cost was $51.00 for the year . :yum:My cat has no title . It was the only quick way to get tabs . Otherwiuse I would have had to file for a title and also pay excise tax on the purchase price of the cat three years ago.

If it is over so many years you can get the vintage snowmobile it is even better. Some time look up the definition of snowmobile, you'll be surprised.
with your snowmobile tab you get the parking permit for snow parks and support the groomer.
well done!

WSDOL sent me a letter asking for the snowmobile "sticker plate" back they are sending me out a hard plate for me to affix tags .

Muley, this thread went off the tracks. I am interested in being a part of some type of cat club or just some people who are passionate about cats and want bullshit about them. I have a tucker 343a and use it primarily in the Stevens pass area but would love to see some other country.
