In search of opinions on best, VW 1600

Looking for your opinion on who the best place is to get a rebuilt 1600 or larger VW. The engine in the ST4 that I purchased had a mouse infestation problem, the urine actually caused significant damage to the block. Don't ask me what they were eating or drinking! Any advice is appreciated. Thanks
 
I have bought my last two long blocks for my Buses from Headflow Masters in southern Cal. Adrian is his name. Think you can google for the contact. He’s a busy guy but keep trying. Shipping was easy and price was fair. I bought a new Brazilian case for both of them through him too. I have put about 58k on one of them so far. He will rework the new heads and put SS valves in them.
 
I am surrounded by VW literate people, My sons employer is a renowned VW builder. My trail boss in the snomo club is a TORC champion in the 1600 single ( port ) class about 20 yrs straight. ( full dyno service)

If you need a stout VW build it can happen easily. I have VW's from both

Surfer is well connected. Pick your poison, I recommend and internal balance and a 90HP recipe. There is a variety of ways to get 90 HP.

I can get it to sheridan for free if you go the midwest route.
 
I did just find an industrial 1600 core out of a kristi. But time and energy are always an enemy. At least I have a core I can trade in now. My original engine I don't think was good enough for a core at least that's what the local machine shop told me. I will give you a shout Mike. Thanks guys
 
if you go midwest route, don't worry about a core. Ill grab something locally cheaper that the free freight.
 
i got a good 1600 from craigs. it was built and in a bus that got wrecked. may not be the best but it is good to me.
 
Spoke with stingle motorsports last night at our sno mo club meeting, He will build a motor, doesn't need a core, he would like to chat with you about how or what you want. there are tons of options from mild to wild.
