In NEED of a BOMBI Bellhousing ( or else... )

TWO TRACK

New member
Perhaps I posted to the wrong forum earlier and if so I apologize. Chalk it up to the learning curve... anyways... Can anyone please help me locate a bellhousing for my Bombi? I have a '76 Bombardier Bombi with the 1.6L 4 cyl 98 cubic inch Ford Industrial "Pinto" engine and British 4 speed transmission. I bought the machine not running after an apparently small engine fire. Now that I have it running I've discovered that the bellhousing is cracked and missing a critical piece that locates the end of the clutch cable. Any help or direction is appreciated. I'm hoping to find one from somebodies salvage or re-power project as opposed to scrapping the whole drivetrain and starting over. Thanks for your consideration.

Thank you BOBCAT for the lead.. unfortunately BOGGIE says no got... So I'm still looking... Some preliminary research points me towards the BH from a Mexican Ford MK1 Escort built for the British market... Yeow! ( insert that sinking feeling here ) Should I be thinking Re-Power or what?

look around for a 1969 to 1971 ford pinto or cortina with the 1.6l motor 711 block, most parts will work, bombardier stocks alot of parts still, give your dealer a call they may have the part still available, I have never seen a bell housing crack before in a bombi, if it is a small crack I would go to welding shop to see if they can repair it. alot cheaper.

brianf - Thanks for the reply. I was thinking along that same line, and I checked into Pinto parts. You are right. Many are available and will fit this engine. The problem for me is that the starter and clutch fork are reversed. That is the clutch fork is on the drivers side on the Pinto, which would make it on the right hand ( wrong ) side of the Bombi and visa-versa for the starter. Not that I really care where the starter is, but routing the clutch cable from the front left of the Bombi to the right rear side of the tub may be a lost cause. I would most likely have to go hydraulic at that point. As far as repairing the bell housing that I have, the crack is better described as a break. The original cast-into-the-bell housing boss that served to stabilize the end of the guide sheath for the clutch cable was broken off prior to my purchase of the machine. Along with the mounting boss, the critical cast in thick rim of the housing is also gone. The cable and the broken off boss were not with the machine when I got it and the person I bought it from is no longer available. This would mean fabricating and welding a suitable replacement to the damaged and quite thin section of the bell housing. The "fabbed" part would most likely be of a different material than cast making the joining of the two dis-similar materials a less than desirable joint. Not that it couldn't be done, just risky in terms of durability. Long walks home in bad weather are way low on my list. More to my liking is the comfort of a stock part. Sorry for the length of the reply here, but I'm trying to get the job done so I don't have to look back. I hate re-doing a job.
