IMP Track Jack DIY

A while back I asked for input on track jacks, got a lot of good ideas and even pictures w/measurements.
So, I got a wild hair and decided to build one...on the off chance that if I ever lose my mind and decide to split my tracks again.
For a little less than $50 in parts and several hours of work cutting and welding, I've got something that I think will be workable. I wouldn't mind having a couple more inches of travel, so on my next one (I bought enough material for 2) I'll make some modifications.

Side note: now I know why these are so expensive to buy ready-made; lots of setup and labor involved. Towards the end I actually started to get the hang of welding using an inexpensive wire feed. Still need lots more practise.

Very accurate looking. They are easy to abuse. I find putting tension on them and rocking the cat back and forth will work the slack up to the top. I have been know to use an impact on them.

Great advice, rocking the cat back and forth. Was a huge issue for me with tracks off the ground when trying to hook them back up, just couldn't get them to stretch far enough....but once done I have plenty of slack. Next time maybe leave the cat and tracks on the ground and try your technique. There has to be a secret decoder ring method that I'm missing.
