Well.. anyone know a dentist?

:)

Got the cat this morning. I traded an 01 skandic WT 500 Fan and a drag and a plastic sled for this 68 Imp.

Straight up trade. Guy was honest and said.. Hey, this thing's got a knock in it!

I drove it just a few hundred yards, over a snowbank and down to the house to put air in one flat. Back up.. and in the barn it went.

Pulled the rear cover.. and this is what I found.

So many questions.

I believe this is a 'ring gear' or final gear.

I found the largest missing tooth piece in the bottom of the pan. few other small bits.

LOL.. What now?

When pulling the rear end, do you pull the tracks ( i had planned to pull them because I want to pull all the tires and check, replace bearings.)

or.. do you detach the axle halves from the center diff, using the large bolts on either side of the housing?

I know my local tractor dealer has done a 'ring and pinion' gear job, which I'm guessing this is.

I've found a few places online that do rebuilds.. One a Oliver tractor specialist, who has a ton of parts it seems.

Do I have it completely overhauled? How to I inspect all those gears that are in the middle? that big tooth piece likely did some damage on it's way to the bottom of the pan.

Thoughts? Other than start drinking. :)

I have very little money in this cat.. which THAT fact is going to change REAL soon I bet.
