IMP air cleaner/filter hack

Just sharing parts info. Been looking to replace the air filter that's tucked up inside the cab behind the steering controls. Not sure but I think originally these were some sort of oil bath setup. Mine came with a paper filter about 4" diameter and 3.5" tall with a 2" flange...filter open at both ends and surrounded by a round metal can enclosure. Can't find an exact filter replacement and ended up with a K&N (RU-0550) that's a half inch narrower and half inch taller, closed on the bottom end. Just bore a hole through the closed end, install a longer center mounting post, and cut off the the "male" 2 inch flange to make it "female". Slide the can back in place, cinch down the wing nut...good to go.
Yeah, most people probably do away with the OEM setup and just slap a filter directly on top of the carb. There's a reason why it's remotely located (otherwise gets wet eventually I guess) and I kinda like hearing it suck air from inside the cabin.
FWIW.

I am not a fan of sucking hot air into my engine. frosted venturis suck as well.

I think the folks that tested snow cats found out quickly about both. airplane folks need to condition the air into the engine I think the underdash was a comprimise. I extend the tube out side the engine cowl on a couple of them to get the sucking noise away.
