I think it is a Fairchild air craft engine that is upside down from it's running postition...

I may have seen one of these recently at the Iowa State fair in an old engine exibit. If it were not this engine it is remarkably similar...

One more favor....


Since this is for the Museum up here in the Yukon and we are working bit by on providence, is there a database or paid service where we can confirm the specific plane it belonged to ? Does NAVCAN or FAA have this capacity maybe ?

BTW,

The engine I am familiar with here has a crank start feature I had not seen before. You crack a crank to wind up a spring, then trip a release to use the spring to spin the engine. The engine here started up instanly at an idle....

The Wiki links has a list of military training aircraft this engine was used in back when.. I think I would start by eliminating those down to your most likely candidate. Good luck.
