I Need The Rusty Man

Where is Rusty when you need him?????

I was helping to clear old furniture out of my wife's late uncle's house when I came across an old radio. Well, actually it's more like a piece of furniture that has a radio, record player and album storage. It's made by Magnavox and the model is "The Embassy". I think that it's probably from the late 40's or early 50's. The wood is mahogany or perhaps dark cherry but mahogany, I think. You know the kind of thing that was popular way back when. I didn't plug it in so I don't know if it still plays but I assume that it would or could be made to.

I was quite taken with it. I don't have any real use for it but it was a pretty piece of furniture and nice wood.

I would have to pay the estate for it and I was wondering if the Rusty man, or anybody for that matter, would have any idea of a price.

Some pics would definately help, but I don't think that it's a super desireable set. If it hasnt been used in a while DON'T plug it in. Will likely need caps replaced to ensure safety of the set.

Too late Rusty. I went back down there yesterday with an extension cord and plugged it in.

All 4 tubes in the back lit up but there's obviously something else wrong because I couldn't tune in any stations. I didn't try to get the record player part to run but I did notice that the rpm selector knob for the turntable showed 4 speeds, 75, 45, 33 and 16. Now I'm old enough to remember the first 3 but what the heck played at 16 rpm?

I turned it off when I smelled a slight burning smell, probably from dust and stuff on the tubes. Anyway, I decided not to mess with it but I did find an old PHILCO cabinet radio and record player from the late 40's in the same room, complete with manual and station callsign stickers for the preset buttons.

It was interesting but I decided that I didn't have the time to mess with either of them.
