The Crazy Scot, #3
Got into Joplin Mo. Monday evening. I wasn't able to get a decent connection until today.
We've been out the last two days driving around in "The Big Trucks". Right now we're in a Kenworth T-2000. 13 speed with a Cat450. Man this is great!!!! A lot different from CDL school. The instructors all said the first day, "You guys have CDL's, so drive the truck the way you want". That made us all feel a lot more at ease. I've been kinda semi float shifting, it works the best for me. What that is, I clutch out of gear, and then slide the trans into a higher or lower gear with the clutch released. That's a whole lot better than that crappy old double clutching. My down shifting needs a little refinement tho. I keep trying to go to too low of a ngear for the speed of the truck. But the instructor is giving me B+s, and sad don't worry, you'll get it.
This morning started out at 0400 for some darktime driving. I thought it was easier than lighttime driving. We went on a bunch of narrow streets making left and right turns. At that time of day, I had all the room I needed, and never scuffed a tire. My shifting improved greatly. We also hit the interstate. In Missouri, the speed limit is 70, and that's what I did. I see why some people get off on driving these things. Once you get it out on the road, it's not hard to drive a straight line, stay in your lane, and you can relax. I've never been a truck that is as comfortable as this. You have torsion and airride suspension on the rears, airride cab, and airide seat. And quiet? No wind noise at all, the only thing you really hear is that bigazz turbo whining. And that aint bad!!

PS. I'd like to thank Jim and Jerry for jumping in on those welcomes.
