Interesting article, with an interactive map that lets you read about your state.

Indiana, my home state, consistently sits in the 10 freest states of our union. Currently resides as #6 out of 50 states for highest degrees of freedom.

You may be surprised about some of the results.

FREEDOM IN THE 50 STATES

This edition again improves on the methodology for weighting and combining state and local policies to create a comprehensive index. Authors William Ruger and Jason Sorens introduce many new policy variables suggested by readers and changes in the broader policy environment (for example, vaping regulations). More than 230 policy variables and their sources remain available to the public on this website.

People usually have the freedom that they want. Sometimes it has to be taken from people who think their freedom is the only one that matters.

Oregon bottom 5. This study is sorely out of date
Oregon levies high burdens on many aspects of life, but allows freedom in some others.

The study was done in 2021, so it is 2 years old.

Since then my state clamped down on abortion but also loosened up on some regulations, taxes and education choice.
