'lil yinzer~
my tub was plugged a few times in recent days. could not use it, & my landlord said there was ice clogging the tub. we plunged the drain fer hours. the ice would seemingly dislodge, then return to where it was. poured draino in too if there was a soap clog. went & looked earlier, & the h2o was drained. sigh. the simple stuff makes stuff so much better sometimes.
havin' a funtional drain that was plugged since thursday/friday is great to have~

Ice??? That makes no sense. It's not even cold today compared to weeks past.

Sounds like you have an exposed drain pipe that is catching cold air from somewhere. Does the tub get real cold around the drain? I have seen it happen in older mobile homes before. Usually from a drain that did not slope properly and held water in a low spot. Christmas day 1983 had one of my rentals freeze that way in a bathroom that was added over an old concrete porch. Was a major job tearing out the floor to access the pipes and fix things right. Temp was 30 below that morning and the fuel gelled in the outside oil tank. By the time we got it thawed and heating again we lost some pipes in the baseboard heat as well.

i know. that is why the ice is now gone. was -1 earlier.

my landlord said if the tub stayed plugged, her hubby would run heat over the pipes in the cellar. the 3 of us tenants have connected pipes & not 1 shower has run fer daze. i'm not the owner; i'm a tenant. & my Parent's pipes froze often. in better weather than this. the place is older & the materials the tubing is of may be different than modern tubing.

i keep a drizzle of warm h2o on during baths to keep the temp. warm, muley. by the drain. i'm not on the 1st fl. by the concrete. they've dealt w/ this before, & the owner knew the ail in seconds & she was correct.

The drain pipes must be loaded with crud inside to freeze like that. Can't believe it is that cold in the basement and they don't lose hot water pipes. Bet the folks on the first floor have ice cold floors.

they maitence often. my flooring is mostly laminate & linoleum. the basement's locked or i'd look. they were there earlier, & if the pipes were broken, they would call to say to not use h2o yet. he may have warmed 'em then.
1st fl. is chilly. i keep boots & 2 pairs of socks on when there during winters.
