home protection project, privacy fence

Heard the other day that my new neighbors may have up to 5 kids. OK, not really into this idea, so up goes the privacy fence around the side of the house they are on. Going to lessen the temptation of kids near the pond, and I really dont care for this family. They basically stole their mothers house, put her in a retirement home, took away her car, job, freedom, and the home she had lived in for a few decades. She would spend days on end working on her flowers, vegetable garden (that I would till for her).........NO, wont be doing that for them, and just enjoying her place. With kids and the history of the kids in this family, we will be bombarded if we dont do something. Holly wants one up around the whole backyard area so the dogs could run some, but $$$ right now wont allow that expense without need. Will be starting layout and grading on Sunday for the drainage etc that will have to be put in.

This is one of those, there goes the neighborhood things. This former neighbors kids are bottom feeders at best, living off her for the last few years. Not going to take a chance with my property.

thanks for allowing me to vent

Looks like that will do the job nicely. Hopefully out of sight .... out of mind.
Best of luck with the new neighbors; hopefully the fence does the job and blocks the impact of them being there.
And if they get really obnoxious ...you could paint the outside of it ugly like Gerard did (if you remember that thread on the other site).

A couple of no trespassing signs will do nicely.

Danny, honestly I would skip the no tresspassing signs, in a situation with neighbors I personally think they tend to do more harm than good.

As you and I discussed yesterday evening, this is a long running problem with the piece of chit neighbors who booted out their mom and now are running the place down. But your new problem is going to be the younger kids. They will simply ignore the signs or not understand them. Their parents will probably tell the kids those signs are to be ignored.

I would put up the fence, that to me is a good idea. But I would also buy a box of candy and keep it on hand for the kids. You want to befriend the kids to the point that they see you as a nice guy. Not so much that they want to hang out at your place, but nice enough that they don't pour soap in your pond!

I do understand your position Bob and usually I would say yep, but I am more concerned over getting sued, than making enemies etc. The pond will be enclosed with locked gates. I am using a less expensive method.....single dog ears so I can do the whole project at once. IF they do get in, it will be from force. From INSIDE the yard you will be able to see some of the pond area, but still not be accesible to young kids etc.

Danny,

Dig the pond deeper :hide: Just kiddin. You do have a problem on your hands. I hope my kids don't do to me what they did to their mom. I am sure they made it out as best for mom to go into the nursing home but for some people there just isn't a better place than home. That lady based on what you said would be much happier at home especially with neighbors like you who would help her out.

I agree the fence is a good idea, maybe make it short so you could be like Wilson on Home Improvement. You could become friends with the kids.

I actually thought of that! I could make it 5'5" and be about right, but my luck the dude or dudet would be 6'2", and ruin it all.
