This may have been brought up before, but I just crawled out from beneath my bridge...

I see the 20 percent off coupons being auctioned on Ebay.
What's the catch?

Andy,
Lots of people have bought them on eBay and no problems. Now I have not so thats just what I hear.

The 20% coupons are very difficult to get approved by the store manager. They are only issued to HD employees as holiday or other special occasion gifts. I know of several people who have been flat denied the 20% discount.

The 10% coupons are usually no problem. I just used one today on a truck load of lumber.

The easiest is to use the 10% coupons at Lowes. The always match competitor coupons, and there is less chance of them questioning the authenticity of the coupon.

Check the eBay sellers decription carefully, and make sure they are sending originals, and not just photocopies. The photocopies will definitely be denied.

I bought one on eBay a while back and took it to HD to purchase insulation for my garage...... $800 worth. Checked first at the service desk and the guy there said it was good. Go back to the register that is closest to the service desk, because I have a pallet of insulation, and the fellow that approved the coupon told the cashier to run the sale. Then she asked for his manager code for the discount, and he was busy, so another manager punched in his code. Then he looked at the coupon and asked where I got it. I told him that it arrived in the mail, which was the truth, since the seller mailed it to me. Head outside with the insulation and am loading it into the trailer, and out comes the store manager, and all the assistant managers. He informs me that the coupon is a forgery. I offer to bring the stuff back inside and void the sale, or pay the difference. Their choice.. He said that he would let the sale go through, but would be notifying the other stores about the forged coupons. I made sure to take an extra long time to load the insulation, in case he decided to call the police. I didn't want it to look like I was trying to pull one over on him, because I truly thought that they were good coupons. I paid with my credit card also, so they do know who I am, in case there are any questions. After having that one experience, I doubt that I will ever buy another coupon on eBay. I did email the seller and told him that the coupon was a forgery. He immediately refunded my money! Guess that he knew that it was a forgery also, and didn't want me telling PayPal about it. Now, I see that the auctions have changed and they say that they are not good at all HD stores, and especially not accepted in New England....

Does anybody know if you still get 10% off of your purchase if you apply for, and use, a Lowes credit card? My dad wants to buy a lawn tractor there today and was asking me. I don't know. A couple of years ago, when I was building my pool house, I had relatively large purchases to make at both places. I used their 10% off deal at each place. I applied for their credit care, was approved while I waited, made my purchase and got 10% off, destroyed the credit card and cancelled it when it arrived in the mail later. Of course, I paid the bill in full when it came. Duh! Oh yeah, go figure, Home Depot gave me an 'instant' credit line of $25,000. Lowes only trusted me with $8,000. :o

Do they still have this offer? My dad wants to do the same thing, but our Lowes store is at the opposite end of town as our Home Depot and he wants to go to whatever place is going to give him 10% off on his first purchase.

If you go to the Lowe's moving section and register, they'll send you a 10% off coupon via e-mail (if you supply an address) or snail mail if you don't supply one. Now, be advised that you'll get junk mail from moving companies for awhile but I get so much anyway it doesn't matter.

Home Depot may have 10% coupons off as well.

Do a google search for Lowe's 10% coupon

When I moved, I went to the USPS site to register my move for getting my mail forwarded and got a 10% off coupon from HD. Went back and re-registered my move a year later and got a 10% off coupon from Lowes.

Hmmm . . . about time to do it again!

Just re-did the lowes thing and noticed this in the fine print:

"†Coupon is not redeemable in cash, is nontransferable and cannot be used in conjunction with any other coupon or discount. Void if copied, transferred, or sold through any online auctions. Limit one coupon per household. Good for a single purchase of any in-stock or Special Order merchandise only up to $10,000. Not valid on previous sales, installation fees, the purchase of gift cards, Maytag’s Neptune line of major appliances, Fisher & Paykel appliances, Dyson vacuums, John Deere products or Krups small appliances. "

If he wants to buy a Toro or Cub Tractor then he should be OK!
