Hole Saw

I have a Skil hole saw that would be 25 years old, It is the best hole saw that i have ever used on wood. Yesterday like a dick head i tried to drill a hole in aluminium with it and broke one of the blades. The saw has 3 adjustable blades. It adjusts from 1 1/8" to 2 1/2".
Skil no longer operate in Australia. I was thinking about having a new one shipped from the USA. My question is what is the quality if Skil products now.
This is the one

I would probably suggest checking around at local swap meets and flea markets (Aussies may have different names....a bunch of people selling their "junk"). I would probably guess that Skil tools are currently made in Asia somewhere, and are nowhere near the quality of your old one.

Perhaps you could send the pieces to Mith and he can weld them together? :D

It will be hard to find one built as well as you old Skil . You might try a wood workers specialty company . Good tools are not cheap .

Vin; When you said hole saw, I thought you meant one of these, Hole Saws - Bi-Metal Cobalt.
But, that IS a hole saw you're talking about! It's a two-wing cutter hole saw, that's what we call it, and they're only for wood and a drill press. I've got one that's probably 15 years old, from Crapman, [craftsman], of all places. I think I've used it twice. Skil used to be the standard in circular saws, but they've managed to go the way of most everyone else on their quality.

Like BigAl said, checkout a woodworker's supply.:tiphat::beer::beer:

Vin, I dont think Skil are so good now, one of the cheaper brands.

Can you not get another brand?

If it looks identical, there's a slim chance it hasn't been bastardized yet. If it wouldn't kill you on shipping it might be worth a try.

I haven't bought a Skill in over 5 years, but both my circular saw and electric drill bought about then are survivng well (don't use them daily, but they get a good work out when I use either).

Also, maybe you wrote and I read wrong, is the broken part a "wear" item? If not, and they are identical, except material quality, you could use the old parts except the broken one.

Good Luck!

General makes two versions of the same type of saw (still American made, I believe).

McMaster-Carr carries them. Stock numbers 8830A13 and 3082A2
