Help with Thiokol Model Number

BigToys

New member
Can anyone help me with the model number of this Thiokol. I believe it was manufactured in the 70's and was a prototype. It has a Chrysler V-8 engine and hydrostatic drive. Any infomation or experience you have had with this model would be appreciated.

Being a prototype if I need parts am I going to be in trouble? I'm still recovering from what I had to pay for the parts for an OC4 rear end on the my first cat (spryte 1202) that I purchased this year! Maybe this winter I will acually be able to take my first drive in a snowcat. I'm looking forward to to a good winter! Thanks

That front looks like an Imp. Seems to me someone recently posted about a hydrostatic Imp and gave the model number. I'll go look. Meanwhile, other than the diff, Thiokols usually used a lot of off-the-shelf parts that can be had from your local NAPA store. :thumb:

By the way, she looks like a beaut---- er, that is, a piece of crap. You should let me take it off your hands.

Thats a Thiokol 2500. There were a few made apparently. BOGGIE has info on one back East. PM him and he may be able to hook you up with the other owner. In my opinion what you may want to get is a Thiokol 1202 (without the oc4). The OC-12 is the bullet proof rear diff you really want. Looks like these were designed to be a grooming cat. They have the hydros for a sled off back. The only other one I have seen (boggies post) was also a groomer. It would make for a nice cat as long as you have wide roads to take her on.

If thinking of buying this cat, you might want to dig into her a little more. If this picture is showing overspray and not just a digital picture compression artifact, it may have been spruced up real hastily for a quick sale. :shifty:

There is no way that much photo-distortion is from lossy compression... overspray-ville!

Thanks for the information! It does not look like the one in the other thread but it may be just a different year. The track does have over spray on it; it appeared to be from touching up the bumper and axle. I could not see any underlining problems. The cat was totally painted a few years ago when the rear cab was fabricated. The paint is actually slightly oxidized everywhere but the inside of the rear cab and the front area where the overspray is. I will look again just to make sure.

As a newbie to this industry this site has been great source of information. I'm glad I don't have to learn everything from the school of hard knocks. :bonk: Thanks again for your comments in this forum.
