Hello From Castle Rock CO. Thiokol 1450 here

Hello everyone,

just found the forum on Snowcats and figured I would quit lurking and introduce myself. I have operated and maintained a Thiokol 1450 Imp for a communications firm for the last 20+ years. I have had it throughout Colorado, Northern New Mexico and Wyoming. We use it to access Tower sites in the mountains 14,000 ft high to the plains in eastern CO. It's never left me stranded and we have used it several times to locate people as well as get meds or food to stranded people in blizzards. My family has owned the communications firm I'm with for the last 12 years so now its pretty much mine and we have learned to use the cat to combine water skiing and snowboarding since sometimes we would rather not pay for lift tickets! after searching the site I didn't know there were a couple other cats in Castle Rock so I hope to meet/talk to some others here.

Hi Lip!
Welcome to FF :)
I don't know much about Snowcats, but I do appreciate them.
You're among a great group of people here, so post and have fun, ok?

Welcome! Since you have been lurking then you know we are a lot more than SnowCats:hide:
Your job sounds like a cool job....I bet you would have some good pictures!
Post often and everywhere!

I was just through Castle Rock a couple months ago and spotted a few cats. I'll be back thataway late this week on my way back to ABQ. We used a 1450 this winter on the other side of the rocks to access some of our seismic sites. Show me your 1450 and maybe, just maybe, I'll show you the most technically advanced, scientifically engineered, snow conquering snowcat on this planet! :thumb:

Ironically I don't have many pictures! just my avatar which is my poor cat on a trailer. I just got it out of storage to prep it for the winter, I hope to replace the steering (master and slave cylinders) and replace all the tires with foam filled tires this fall as well as the usual maintenance. I noticed theres quite a friendly rivalry between thiokols and kristy's I personally have no dog in that fight but being a gun guy and a NASCAR fan I can certainly respect a good rivalry as much as anyone!

It's more like mutual respect between the Thioks and the Kristis. Now the SnotTrac/SlowMaster weenies....there's a different bunch! They putter around in their backyards and cornfields and actually claim to be serious catters! :pat:

The avatar is cool.

Hey Lipp, welcome to ForumsForums!!!!! I'm glad you found us and signed up! :D
Your job / business sounds very cool indeed. I look forward to some pics when ever you have the time to share some with us here on FF.
Enjoy and post often! :thumb:

ps: for anyone doing you tube videos, how about listing www.forumsforums.com at the end of the video, and mention our snowcat community. :thumb: Then be sure to let us know about the video, so we can all enjoy it.

welcome to the forums - when you get tired of listening to others argue about their tracks, check out the gun forums so you can brag there! ;) (oh, yeah - and participate in the discussions)

Maybe I should clarify my beliefs before everyone makes me out to be a great guy!

1. I am an Earnhardt fan since 1980 so even though he has a large mouth with nothing to show for it Junior is my horse. And I think that he screwed up seperating from DEI. My second horse is Smoke and third is kinda a toss up but Johnson is leading by a nose.

2. I am a Glock guy love them always have and thats it. Rifles I prefer Colt AR's and Remington 700 7MM Mags.

3. I like Thiokols but I have driven LMC Groomers and loved them, Bomby and P Bully Snow Groomers and really loved them.

So I guess when it comes to NASCAR and Guns I am loyal to few but Snocats I'm a cheap whore but I like to think of it like this, any day in a snocat just doesn't feel like work even if it is!

Oh no! Not another Earnhardt Jr. fan! I'll guess I'll let that one slide for now. I like the way you put it.....but here's my version.....

A bad day in a snowcat is better than a good day at work.

Yes I am a tried and true Earnhardt fan but no one is perfect! Thing I enjoy about my snowcat is I normally get paid to have fun but I have to tell you I have been reading your posts and bud I have to buy you a beer! You are a die hard snowcat operator by all definitions!

Cowgirl don't let the location fool you I have been in CO for 21 years but I'm originally from Tucson which is kinda crazy since when I moved here I got thrown into a snowcat in the rockies since nobody felt comfortable driving it when they didn't care to fix or learn how to fix or maintain it, hmmm sounds like groomerguyNWO's problems!!

Yep.....I had my share of problems last season while snowcatting. Like the saying goes...$h-t Happens!

As far as Earnhardt, I'll even admit that I've been to DEI's shop in Mooresville. We were down there in 01 for the Martinsville race then drove down to Charlotte and toured some of the shops. Pretty cool!

No real snow in Hawaii and not a race car fan, but we do have lots of Aloha so

and WELCOME!

Welcome! Looks like you have this place all figured out already. Come in guns blazing and have fun!:thumb:

I'm relieved to hear you have not been left stuck in your 1450. I am taking mine on it's first voyage this weekend. I bought it a few weeks ago and have been tuning it up and adding some safety/comfort add-ons. I plan to climb 4000 vertical feet up a forest service road to a favorite view spot I only have visited in the summer by 4x4. Mine is a widetrack. I hope it has the muscle and floatation to make the trip!!!
