Hello everyone!

Bulldog1401

Anybody seen my marbles?
Glad to see that there others with like interests. I own a Thiokol Imp that is in fair to poor condition, but definately restorable. I would appreciate any info on parts sources. I am currently trying to find a substitute for the Conoco DN600 lube that goes in the transaxle(OC4). Any help in the matter will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome Bulldog!

Would an arctic oil like 76 Synthetic HD Arctic be what you are looking for? I don't own one of these vehicles, but I think if it is too cold for this oil, it's likely too cold to be out playing around. :D

:snow2_smi Hi Bulldog, we have several Imp owners here (but I am not one of them).

For specific snowcat questions, you are best off to post the questions inside the snowcat area. In the case of the question you are asking, I'd suggest you put your question under the "Repair & Restoration" area of the Snowcat area. The ForumsForums are pretty big so it is easy to 'lose' topics on specific issues.

BTW, do you have the dual shifter version of the Imp or the single shifter version? :snow_smi:

What oil do you run in the rear end? On an OC-4 or OC-12 there have been different oils recommended. The most common is hydraulic oil preferably 10W if used in winter conditions. Cats used for other purposes in other seasons should adjust accordingly. I used Aeroshell 100 Mineral or Unocal HT-4 which is a 10W Hydraulic Tractor fluid in my Imp. Don't use heavy gear oil or you will have difficulty steering. ATF is recommended in some manuals for machines that have hydraulics but is very light. ATF may be easier on the hydraulic pump when below freezing, but it is not always necessary provided the fluid is warmed up properly before raising engine RPM's. High RPM's with cold fluid will starve the pump causing premature failure.
