Hi , I'm Ian and I'm from Coffs Harbour , NSW , a bit lower than the middle of the east coast of Australia . I am a mini enthusiast and while researching another project I found a photo of this modified mini that was sent to Antarctica by Australias Antarctic division in the 1960's that I believe used snow-trac components .

I'll put this photo in the historical section as well but would appreciate any information or ideas about the undercarriage/running gear .

:4_11_9:

You win. That's the goofiest looking Snow Trac I've ever seen! :yum:

By the way, watch out. There's a mean old man in your neck of the woods. Goes by the handle 'daedong'.

Yup, I figured about a 20hr drive from you. To me that is too close! :yum: He has some sort of a scary kangaroo fetish as well.

Well there are enough of the damn things here , think of a roach infestation , make each roach 4 or 5 foot tall and make them furry and you have the kangaroos ....

What a cool pic. :thumb: Way to start out here. :D
Welcome to FF Sports850!

Welcome to our little play ground...:thumb:

The only thing to really know around here is when to ...

DUCK....

Erik , it's not bad meat either but the greens complain when you shoot them and they are supposedly protected :pat:

Thank's everyone , I was only intending to stick around till I found the answers to the mini-trac but this place is fun , might have to stay a bit longer  :alc: :drink: :coolshade

That's the spirit. Kick off yer shoes and stay a spell. :thumb:  :D

I understand - I saw an article today about a guy who will probably goto jail for shooting a cougar on his property - because he didn't have a cougar license. ofcourse, our wildlife & parks folks have been denying for years the presence of cougars in Kansas, and the guy has small children - which seem to be perfect prey, but still, there's a lot of folks crying "how dare he"! (of course, they're city folks who have no idea what kind of damage one of these critters can do...)
I'd heard the roos are a pest now that they're protected, I also remember back in the 70's when McDonald's here in the states was mixing roo meat into their burgers "because it was more healthy" - of course, they also forgot to change their ads from "all beef patties..."

hope you hang around, it's always good to hear about life and folks elsewhere.

hi Ian and welcome....in all my years thats the wackiest mini i have ever seen....by the way my neighbour restores the great mini's and will get some piccys of him to post in due course.

Sounds good Kimi , I'm currently down to 5 mini's and variants .... But looking for a reasonable 850 to do a repro of this thing in the future when I can find enough out about it .

This is my current "stable" , a 1968 windowless van being built as a mythical works rally team support vehicle , 1971 Nota Fang (Australian produced mid engined sportscar , mini based of course) , 1962 sports850 (only 6 genuine left) , 1970 mini K (complianced in the 12/1970 , same month/year I was born , will be my 40th birthday project) and a 1981 Moke Californian .

They are a disease and once you have it there is no hope of moving on from them ....
