Heating Oil

tiredretired

The Old Salt
I burn mostly wood pellets to heat my house but when it gets down to the low teens or colder I need a little oil heat to keep the end of the house warm enough for my wife's business. Today I got 143 gallons of oil for $3.76/Gallon. That's 30 cents more per gallon than gas. Not really a rant because it is what it is and I can't do a damn thing about it, but I wonder why so much for a lesser refined product? Somebody is getting rich and it ain't me. :hammer:

I burn pellets too.

Have not lit the propane boiler in 2 years.

I wish I could say that. I am heating 2100 square feet. The bottom floor where the stove is located is a constant 72. The main floor is 68 which is good, but for my wife's massage therapy business way too cold for the clients. That's where the oil usage comes from. On the bright side, it's TAX DEDUCTIBLE!

You should have got it 2 weeks ago. Gas,diesel and heating oil all jumped 10-14 cents around here since we started 2012.

Heating oil prices have remained steady here for the last couple of months. Just starting to inch up, that is way I bought now. But you are right, if I had gotten it two weeks ago I could deduct it on my 2011 taxes instead of waiting a year. Oh well. I'm a dummy. :shifty::brows:

It was the low refinable fuel. Then the EPA forced it to go Low Sulfur. Now it cost more than the 93 Octane gasoline.

I used to drive a Mercedes 300SDL. Wonderful car. Flagship of the Benz line using the cheapest fuel $.90 to $1.00 at the pump and getting 24 MPG. Not bad for a 5,000 lb car built in 1986.

Now the stuff cost more than high test. Three times the money for no more BTU's in your burner.

Stop being a Republican/conservative who just wants to poison our air.:hammer:
And pay your fair share:yum:

BTW, you actually can blame this on GWB but I doubt the left will admit it.

be happy ours is 5.50 a gallon with up a 2 buck a gallon increase when the renda finaly gets here with our last load

Well the point you are missing is Gas has almost sixty cents a gallon of gas as road taxes. Heating oil has no such thing, they are gouging you pure and simple.

Road Diesel and heating oil use to be the same thing, but they took much of the sulfur out of the Diesel fuel for environmental regulations and it costs a bit more to refine, but heating oil is much cheaper to refine, but the Road taxes aren't in it, so it is costing more because they can simply stick it to you...

I use heating oil when the coal stove burns down, for a 3800 SF house, but the coal will shut the oil heat off at -40 F outside! Coal is really cheap to use too!

news flash your heating oil will be changing to a ulsd product also up here heating oil is sold as #1 which most places buy only jet spec which has a closely controled flash point and extra filtration other wise it's the same as karosine as refnerys convert to make ulsjet you will find that your heating oil is the same product
