here is some old pics. LOL up on some of the mountain tops telephone poles were used to mount antennas to... mainly cost, and also the wood poles were able to "sway" win the wind or flex and it helped keep ice off the antennas... well on sleds there wasn't much option other then hitting the base with a pipe to get the ice to fall.
but one up side to taking sleds is you already had a helmet on. :)
