Hauling Snowcat with Uhaul Car carrier

Hey guys, I need to get move a super imp, but I don't have a trailer and don't want to spend the cash to haul it. I heard somewhere that if you take the tracks off the imp it will fit in a uhaul car carrier. First, is this possible? Second, is it a good idea?

Any thoughts, or better ideas would be very helpful.

Have you ever pulled the tracks off a snow cat before? Always sounds easier than all the rusted and seized parts will allow. You need to just break down and either buy a trailer to haul the cat or hire a professional to do the job. No matter what you may now think, you will eventually need to trailer it to the repair shop or another location. The trailer is the cheap part of owning a snow cat........:confused2: And, by the way, with the tracks off it will drive not itself on to the car carrier, you will have to winch or figure out another method to load and unload. :pat:

ya what mtntopper said.the only thing it seems that he forgot was how heavy the tracks are when there not on the cat

Yes, you can rent a U-Haul one way.

So what’s the consensus, can you haul a snow cat on a U-Haul trailer? Weight wise, width wise, and load ability?

I have a Bombardier SkiDozer that I need to move about 200 miles. The tracks are off and loaded onto the back of the unit. I believe the weight of the unit is somewhere around 6500 lbs (with tracks).

Someone suggested a roll-off to move it but, I think that would be rather expensive by time they drive there and back. The other way, I’m renting the trailer there and using my ‘Burban to tow it home, then drop off the trailer at the local U-Haul when I’m done.

Any one with experience moving one?

This is a spec sheet for a 252G.

I am not sure what's the difference between a 252G and a 302. I also have the 41" aluminum tracks. My engine is a 429 Ford.

From a friends experience , You do not want the uhaul company to find out what you are hauling, if it is not what you said it was. 6500lbs is alot more than a uhaul trailer is rated for. Their policy is if you break the trailer by not using it correctly, YOU BUY IT. Those trailers are not cheap, they told my friend he would be charged 6500$ do not know the outcome yet as he has not gone to court yet. :(

I see...yea...I was not sure of the trailers capacity. That would make sense about being responsable for damage. :pat:

How about the capacity of a roll-off. Would that make sense to hire something like this?

I would call the tow company, alot of them around here are 2-2.50 loaded mile. If you can get it hauled for 500$ doesn't sound bad to me? Gov car mileage right now is .43 a mile I think. Most roll offs should haul that load easy I had one haul my 1070 JD FEL when it needed work it weighs over 6500lb.

the basic vehicle weight doesn't include the weight of the tracks. uhaul trailers only have a 7000lb gvw and you have to take the weight of the trailer away from that and i would guess that would be around 3000lbs so they will only haul 4000lbs good luck

Looks like I will be making a boodle of calls tomorrow. I'll let you guys know what comes about.

Thank you to everyone for their input.

Regards.

Mbsieg, you were pretty much on track with prices per mile. I had to pay a little bit more because the company that I went with is using their large roll off. They went with this truck because of the width of the Bombardier.:D
