i decided to put out money on some new radio's to compliment the radio in the snow trac went with a yaesu ft-270 and have been happy with it. i've been playing with the irlp network and have been impressed with how well it works with the irlp i've been able to make contacts all over the us and other countrys from out here in the bush and everybody sounds like they are across the street this is a cool system and i love the way the whole ham hobbie is set around building your equipment and expermintation.

i will get my camara at lunch and grab some pics of the radios i'm gooing to miss my old big brick sized king radios but the little yaesu's work great they have a much wider frequency spread so now i can use 1 radio for han ,marine and buisness vhf band i also would like to find an old general coverage transciver with tube finals for hf work

thank you hf is where the fun comes in because those bands are reliant on propagation and antenna design. the fm stuff is more set up around repeaters and uplinks my 12 year old is interested in getting his license and looks to be doing pretty good watching his test scores.he might do it pretty in the next month

Ok Rusty these are a little newer than you have and the boards were so small i needed a magnafier to see the boards to make the mars mods to them but they seem to be good radios with good audio circuts in them also you can see the old BK radios i was using for work.i like the old bk radios they are built like a tank 20 years old and still working good the alinco mobile is a 50 w output and the ht are 5 watts 5 watts is all i need around town but the high power comes in handy when out on the road or in the hills.

I have always liked field day on the HF bands, in fact got my worked all 50 states in code on field day 2003. a Hf rig would really add to the snow cat

a little compact hf would be cool because i could cruse to the top of a mountain an set up but the real reason for the 2 meter is we have an awsom linked repeater system here with a phone patch works good for checking in at the house when i'm out also makes a great security blanket incase the snow trac wants to act like a krusti.
