Half my crap is missing ????

BigAl

Gone But Not Forgotten
Ok .... I admit it . The last couple of weeks have been bad around here . I have broken stuff all over this place . I have tools laying everywhere .
Half of them are missing ........ So I said the hell with it and started organizing today .

This sucks ..... I have found tools in every piece of equipment I own and I am still missing tools . To top it off I spent all yesterday cutting hay and dropped a bearing on the conditioner on the second pass . You guessed it ..... more lost tools by the time I got it repaired 4 hours later .Crawled home around 10 PM . Now today it decides to come a summer thunder shower and rain & hail to beat the band . I'll be turning hay for the next week or lose a huge crop .

God I love this life !

I told you the rain was coming! I'm due west and everything that passes over me hits you in a day or two.

I'm starting to do the lost tools thing too. I guess that doesn't bode well for when I'm really old like you Al. :poke:

I feel for you Al. Ok, just a little bit.

My wife asks me why I have 5 sets of socket wrenches. I tell her that when I get down to one set I have to buy another because everybody knows that you need at least 2 sets and then I start finding the "lost" ones again so the number just keep on growing.:biggrin: That logic seems to apply to a lot of stuff.

One of you fellas has my 1/2 inch socket don't you? 3 sets of 3/8 drive and can't find a 1/2 inch size.:hammer::hammer:

I went ranting and raving to my son the other day about I couldn't find my 1/2 inch metric impact socket set, wasn't in my tool box................. and then the Alzheimer's went away for awhile and I quietly got them out of the dump truck tool box to use on the tractor .............

So from now on when you need a tool check the following:

  1. All tool boxes
  2. All vehicles
  3. Under all vehicles
  4. All window sills
  5. Junk drawer in the kitchen
  6. Tractor tool box and anywhere in or around the seat
  7. Last 3 locations you used a tool, including the neighbors place

I probally half a half a dozen extra 1/2 inch , after I reorganized all of my tools last winter . And out of 6 full sets I only have 1 damn 9/16ths socket in 3/8ths and 1/2 inch drive .

I now spend more time cleaning and putting away every tool I have as soon as I am done with them then I do looking for them , but its damn sure worth it .

Since I posted that I remembered where one was. In the bucket with the chain link fence tools from putting up the chicken pen. I have been doing much better about putting things away where they belong also. I do have at least 4 claw hammers scattered around right now as well as 3 tape measures. I found my big T square down in the wife's sewing area yesterday while looking for the cherry pitter.

Another place to look (especially for your 1/2" socket & ratchet is in your chainsaw toolbox. Standard size for the nuts holding your bar on...

Like Cowboy, I've been trying to keep things organized. I actually have my wrenches laid out in the toolbox, side-by-side from large to small. If one is missing, it's an obvious hole. Sockets go on those strips that hold about 15-20. Again, obvious hole. When I start a project and get tools out of the chest toolboxes, I leave every drawer I took something out of open a couple inches. I only close them when I return the tools. That's helped...

Sorry your hay got wet Poobah. :(

I just found one of my tape measures in the wife's junk drawer in the kitchen!:hammer: What does a tape measure have to do with twist ties and stuff like that? She probably has one of my sockets in her sewing room too. Of course I did borrow her turkey baster about 15 years ago to put acid in a battery.:whistling: She saw it when we moved over here and had a fit. I told her it was used for battery acid so it was mine now.:yum:

I tore the entire farm apart a couple weeks ago looking for a 1" socket for my 1/2" drive impact. I finally concluded that I just don't have one.

Another thing I did since I have several toolboxes . I have one that is strictlly american and one that is strictlly metric & specialty wrenches , oddball screwdrivers and other weird tools I have aquired over the years . Some I cant even remember WTF I got them for but I figure I may need them again sometime .

I carry very few tools on the tractor but also have a portable box I can throw on my golfcart in case I get away from the shop & need a tool . I also have a set in our mudroom at the back porch and My wife has a set in the basement in Her candle shop . 99% of all the tools we have are craftsmen which I find hard to beat and there so affordable in sets it only makes sense to have a set anywhere you might need them .
