Well, I've got my taxes done and I'm ready to file and my tax software has advised that I can't file electronically because Form 8839 has only been released in a draft version.

I checked out irs.gov, and sure enough, it won't be released until 2/13/09. Apparently I'm expected to file on time, but they can't be expected to release the proper forms to us on time. :sad: :evil: There's an entire list of forms that won't be released until anywhere between 2/13 and 3/31.
 
Don't worry - it seems like accurately filing tax forms is no longer a big deal. Heck, omit what you can and embellish where ever possible. You just have to get a really good job in Obama's administration and it will all be OK! ;)
 
I just don't understand that they make employers have W2's sent out by January 31 and all other statements have to be distributed by January 31, but the IRS's own forms don't have to be ready on time.

How hard is it to change the year at the top of the form from 2007 to 2008?
