Graphics card

Galvatron

Spock and Galvatron < one and the same
I just wasted hours of my life that i will never get back......

My Daughter-in-law called me last week and said her desk top PC needed better graphics and wanted advice, she had the sense to give me the board model ect so i could assist her and she went ahead and ordered a new graphics card.

So yesterday she calls me and says it has arrived and would i mind just popping in and installing it to which i was happy to,and then the time wasting started.

blue screen,wtf.....the graphics card is pci-e and correct for the board ram ect but nothing but a blue screen, ripped apart a spare PC,checked for dead ports and all was fine.....i asked her if she had checked all i advised her to and she said yes???

Could the Graphics card be a faulty one??....drove home and slapped it into one of my PC's and it works perfectly fine???

Now im pissed off as i do not like be beaten in life.....then it dawns on me...she had a power supply die on it a few months back and i was to busy to fix it so she had a local shop sling one in for her,the idiots did not take in to account future upgrades and put in the cheapest most basic 300 watt power supply possible, min requirements for this graphics card is 400 watt.

Hours wasted, new power supply ordered.....live and learn lol

I am sure in this story there is a lesson to be learnt by all:wink:

That was your first lesson. When you get a new video card the first thing you check is will the PSU support it?
