As the title states. I finally bought and snow trac that I found on craigslist. I don't have any pics yet since it and my tow rig are currently stuck in Fairbanks. I blew the rear main on the motor on the trip back from Central Alaska. That's where the trac was. Hopefully I'll get it back down here in Valdez by the end of this week. Anyway, it's the ST4 and if I remember the number on the back tag was 2147. Overall very good shape. It was used on the West Coast of Alaska as the school bus and has around 900 miles on the odometer. So now I'm just waiting to get it home and use it this winter. There are a few pics on craigslist I believe.

"Right ON!" when I worked in Valdez, around 1999 and 2000, I located several other people there that had Snow Cats, and even one Snow Trac. Just drove every street. Not hard to do in a small town. Very appropriate for a place that gets 20 to 40 FEET of snow a year! good luck with it!

Well after almost 13 hours of driving, this is what followed me home. Overall it's in real good condition, at least to me and now the fun starts. I plan on repainting to the original colors but that may not happen until next summer. I'll post some more pics of it tomorrow after some sleep.

Great looking machine! I think the ST's are one of the best looking (let alone functional) machines out there... and this one looks to be in fantastic shape! Nice find!

Much better then say...............a........................601 or Krusti..... :w00t2:

Well, I got some more pics after moving it playing a little. The odometer shows 865 and the hour meter is a little over 650. and the gas heater looks intact. Some of the wiring isn't hooked up but that gives me something to tinker with. It doesn't have the original carb and the one that's on there works but you have to have the choke out a little to make it run good. I believe that I have a air leak around the base so I need to find me a new carb. Anyway here are the pics.

I just talked to a friend of mine and he told me where there are 3 ST's sitting behind someones house and also a pile of parts. I now know what my next mission is going to be. Also a quick question, how much work would it be to put the wider snow master tracks on the standard ST4?

That would be a great find. Keep us informed on what you find. It is always good to know where the spares are! :whistling::brows:

Also a quick question, how much work would it be to put the wider snow master tracks on the standard ST4?

It would be almost impossible to put Snow-Master tracks on an ST4 as the wheel base is about 12" wider on a Snow-Master. It would require new front axels and axel housings, frame modifications to move the bogies out and replacing the rear wheel carirer assembly. Then you would have to find (or make) the very rare wide grousers. It would be eaiser to find a Snow-Master and restore it!

Another idea would be to put asymetrical tracks on an ST4, but that is still not as good as a real Snow-Master for the steep-and-deep.
