GOOD Source for Mower Blades?

LONG story...

After two weeks of rain and long hours at work I desperately needed to cut my grass last weekend. I have 60 inch First Choice Rear Finish Mower, and I decided the blades were beyond sharpening and it was time to replaced them.

For the sake of convenience, I picked up three 20 inch blades at Tractor Supply Company last Saturday. When I got home, I realized the new blades were half as thick as the old ones. There wasn't enough threads on each spindle to completely tighten the nuts because the blades were thinner. I ran back out and bought a large washer to put between the blade and the nut, which worked and put me back in business.

I got the front yard done and started on the back yard, then it happened... I ran over a tree root and BADLY bent one of my new blades. Obviously, Tractor Supply Company isn't a good place to by blades. I need to find a source (hopefully without ordering them) to find decent quality mower blades similar to the ones that came with the mower three years ago.

Where do you buy your blades, and how well do they hold up?

Check with the selling dealer. I have found that the Kubota blades were not that expensive, and you know that they are engineered for the machine. When you consider the length of time the blades are used, each use isn't that much money to go with cheap blades. I understand your predicament last weekend, but go for the new proper blades now that you have the time. ...... I keep a spare new set on the shelf at all times. After one sharpening, I figure I got my moneys worth out of them...... Junk...

I have two sets of blades and rotate them. I welded a new bead of metal on them the last time and then ground it to a sharp edge.

I just started doing this so I'm not sure how well it works over time but they mowed great when I used them.

Of course, I just ordered some gator blades so I'll be trying those out soon too.
