Fuel Pump? 81 Bombi 1600 eng

I am having problems with the manual Fuel pump on my 81 Bombi with the 1600 engine. Replaced the pump last yr and just replaced it again. I now realize that it's not the pump. Is there something on the cam lob that fails
and then no longer moves the pump arm? I looked inside the fuel pump hole (as best I could) and could not see anything. But that only means I could not see anything. I am thinking I should just put a electric pump on and take off the manual pump

Any ides or suggestions?

The Bombi is half covered in 9 feet of snow at 7,000 feet in the High Sierras . Thought I could fix it with a new pump put after spending a few hours laying on the snow with my head in the engine compartment I relized that the pump was not the problem.

Thanks

Phil

i agree if you could get air to the machine blow the line backwards if not try sucking out of a gas can , we have had the same problem with logging equiptment , some times so plugged even air wont remove it ,,,,spruce bark and chaff from spruce and pine along with dirt and rust will slowly plug inlets rock solid

Blew air into gas tank with the fuel line till I heard bubbling, did not suck any gas out of the line did not try.
There is no pressure or suction on the fuel pump inlet or outlet

thats a good sign one time i changed a fuel pump on a pickup truck and when i put the new one on i had nothing ,, then i realised there was a tiny push rod in the block that had fell out on the floor of the shop , put it back in there and it ran like a watch ,, now not sure if the 1600 pump is operated with a push rod but if so maybe it fell out or out of place while you werent looking ??? just an idea from a guy that has &*## up more stuff than ill ever fix ...also if you can operate the pump by hand you should feel the suction i saw my dad put his lip on a pump to test it and when he spun it omg it stuck to his lip and he ran around the shop screaming like a girl :yum:,,,,very funny to see but proved the pump had lots of suction ,, that was a rotary vacum pump on a dzl engine but the principle should be the same ....

ok guys i will step in here we know the fuel line is clear aside from an inner hose colapsing here's what is wrong in the 80's ford had weak actuator lobes on their 4 cylender engines and it was common for the fuelpump lobe to wear off ford blamed it on not enough oil changes ever one i ever ran into we just left the old pump in to plug the hole in the block and replaced it with a little inline electric pump electric pups are best located close to the tanks and as low as you can get them this should fix your problem also on the plus side the old diaphrams were prone to leaking and filling your oil wih gas which is why all my backcountry riggs have electric pumps because who takes oil change stuff with them but an electric pump is small cheap and easy to stow for an emergancy

If you are sure the lobe is wiped out use an airtex pump E84070

We had a 1948 B model Mack fire truck that had a huge 6 cylinder gas engine that wiped the cam I put one of these in and never had a problem.

I made a blank plate for the block to cover the hole in the block for the mechanical pump.

wow.
Thanks for all the response
It looks like I'll Go with the electric fuel pump

The lobe could be worn down. To get it running
now, the electric pump is the way to go.
When the snow melts I can bring it down
to my house and figure it out.
I guess the 500 Hrs on the engine when
I got it was a little low.

The bombi has been great for us. We use
it to get to our cabin. No more snowmobiling
in the rain, sleet or while it's snowing
When the weather sucks we just leave the
Snowmobiles at the cabin and take the Bombi (enclosed heated cab)

Thanks
