the old trucker

Guess I'm one of the new kids on the block. I found out about this site thru northerntracks.com . My fingers are not very fast on this talk box. A little differant than using a CB. I have lots of time on my hands now. I love the old wooden bombardiers. One day I'll have one. :weneedpic :17875:

Hi Old Trucker. Glad you've found us. :D
Lots going on here and plenty of snowcat info when you need it.
Being Fast on the keyboard is not a requirement, and in many instances it can actually hurt ya.
Enjoy and post often. :thumb:

Hi Old Trucker - welcome. Thought you'd get a kick our of this since you're a trucker. Enjoy and have fun! :yum:

Welcome and have fun! I am a permanently "retired" driver myself... long story and it involves JAWS, hydraulic rams, and rides in helicopters...but if someone had a pretty blue W-9 that they needed some help getting somewhere on occasion I would have a hard time passin it up..:smileywac

hello rback33. I am permanently retired also. somewere along the same lines. been on holidays for seven yrs. now. it don't take long to cover a few acres of real estate over the years. i ran from Newfoundland to BC, to Texas & a few spots in between. I'm not fussy about the old k-whoppers or that ol' mopar you got there. can't beat a freightliner. MOPAR ...stands for---more old parts are recycled!!!!! just fooling with you. good to bawl at ya.

I am a freightliner fan for sure. That's what I put most of my miles in and what they had to cut me out of.... That happened 6 days before my 25th birthday so I know you have a few miles on me... If things were to ever work out right, my wife would have a HUGE horse trailer with huge living quarters and i would be pulling it with a class 6 freightshaker like this one...

I still have my CDL.. will never give that up. I can ALWAYS get a job with one of those...

My late partner drove a Mack Ultraliner and I loved it, I was mate with him on abnormal loads - I too have a heavy goods licence (I think in your language it means I can drive semis). I only drive my own trucks now to shows, I have never been a working truck driver, only a mate or second driver, but for some unknown reason I love trucks and so welcome to another 'nutter' - well you have to be mad to drive the damn things. I have attached a picture of Rick's Mack and also one of my lorries, it is a Foden FH70 gun tractor - ex military vehicle.

Welcome to the board.

Funny you mention CB; my Grandfather was in to HAM and CB, clear back in the 1930's. He was on the air with Pearl City when the Japanese started thier attack on Pearl Harbor...

My Uncles rural fire dept still uses a early 60's Pace 23 channel base station to talk to guys out in the wheat fields. It's a tube radio, which my Grandad tweaked a little; It makes a whole lot more than 5 watts...

Re trucks and Freightliners, my favorite is a mid 70's KW W925; I was a kid when "Movin On" came on TV. Always been enamored with big green KW's with Cummins power... Some guy, I think in New Jersey, has the last known remaining "Movin On" truck, still in original paint. he has one of the original "BJ & the Bear" KW Aerodynes.

There's another guy that has a Mack replica of the truck used in "Convoy", and has the original trailer used in the movie. This guy actually led a 30th anniversary drive around the movie filming sites/roads. Cool!

Another guy in Southern Calif, has the remianing "Deul" truck. It has been repowered. It's been repainted to look exactly like it did in the movie.

My driving is limited to a GMC Topkick with an Detriot and 10sp Roadranger(Water Tender in our FD), and enignes based on the Ford 7000 and 8000 series chassis. Those Cat3208's don't have much power to hual around 800 gallons of water pluss all the fire gear...

Welcome Old Trucker, another one here, retired since '04, put more miles on a FLD120 than anything one other truck, traded it for a Volvo, like going from a tin can to a Lexus, smoothest, quietest ride I've ever been in, sold it and still see it around, tugs at the old heart strings everytime I see it. We'll never get truckin' out of the blood, and I'm old enough that I watched Cannon Ball when it was on TV.

Welcome on in here. The biggest & nicest thing I have ever driven is a fire engine, does that count?
What the heck, we'll heckle with ya any-how!:poke:
