friend died of covid yesterday

A friend of ours died of covid yesterday. It was the straw that broke the camel's back as he had been in and out of hospitals for years and didn't have a good outlook for a long life to start with as he had a heart transplant a few years ago that was beginning to show signs of rejection the past couple years. He messaged my wife 3 days ago saying he had covid and it wasn't good. His body just didn't have to strength to fight it.
 
Sorry to hear this and very sorry for your loss.

Sadly the compromised are still very susceptible to Covid. Everyone can get it. People at risk should not be exposed. It’s a lesson we all need to keep in mind. It’s pretty easy for the healthy to blow off the concerns, to ignore this, but it is still killing people.

Agreed 👍. The healthy are quick to blow off concerns (myself included). It is a serious illness. We have a good friend from camp who's been battling throat cancer for a while now. Sadly the writing is on the wall for him as he now has a tracheotomy and can no longer speak. He is on palliative radiation and was told there's nothing more that can be done for him. We were rather upset with another friend who was supposed to be in quarantine with his son who had covid. Well, he showed up at the fire drunk the other night and wouldn't leave. We all got upset as just because he's negative, his son is still positive and it could be the final nail in our friends coffin if he got it.

I'm sorry for your loss. Life shoots us in weak spots sometimes and we either never see the bullets coming, or we can't stop them. Faith is a hard thing to have and we can't know what comes after this life, but I believe faith should manage. We created the concept that we begin a better life when our bodies die.

I just got over covid about 2 months ago and im still suffering the after effects.
Losing my voice easily, tiring quickly.
My dr was very concerned because of diabetes, asthma, and heart condition.
And i recently lost a sister in law to covid as well.
The disease is no joke for anyone who is not 100 % healthy, it is also many times more contagious than the flu.
And even then some of them have had it very hard.
The fever and general ague are not bad and generally last about 3 to 5 days, but the after effects can be devastating.

My advice to anyone who has not had it.
Get vaccinated, keep your electrolytes levels up, and above all keep hydrated ( this disease seriously dehydrates you)
 
Strange that this should come up again.

I ran into a guy I know in town last week. I've mentioned him on here before. He caught COVID about 18 months ago and was having a helluva time with ongoing symptoms after he got over the initial infection. Well, he's still having trouble with Long COVID symptoms and it's been over two years now. He owns a HVAC business but still can't work a full 8-hour day. On a good day he can make about 4-hours. He still can't work in the field and is restricted to office work and answering phones. He was happy, healthy and in his early 50s when he caught it. Now he is a physical wreck and frustrated as hell. I really worry about him.

Me? Last Thursday I went to get my old persons flu shot and they were giving COVID boosters as well, so I doubled up and got them both. I don't know if it will do any good but hopefully it won't do any harm. I'm one of those high-risk individuals.
 
We stopped at 3 vaccines I know someone who is going on her 5th vaccine. Has gotten it twice. It went through our house last year. Only one out of 5vof the kids got it. I was sicker than her despite testing negative 3 times. It hits everyone differently.

I am 82 and had covid a year and a half ago. I have had no Biden shots and will not. My only lingering symptoms are the loss of smell and taste. Now days Spam tastes like a ribeye. Have a goodun!!!!!!!
 
Electrolytes levels are more important than people think.
Bloodwork will tell you a lot.
Magnesium, potassium, zinc, and vitaminc c,b.
Were a bit low in me ,so doc had me taking supliments as well as an antiviral and a secondary antibiotic.
If your doctor allows you use mucinex or a recomended expectorant.
And a steam vaporizer helps a lot.
Im still dehydrating quickly and im drinking enough water to float a battleship.

I dont know what other long term effects will occur so were monitoring everything close.

I guess the message here is the old phrase.
" an ounce of prevention is worth a ton of cure"
 
Everyone is going to get it, likely again and again. All our kids have and I may have too but didn't test after the first time. Son came over with it, sat in his truck touching everything and talking for 10 minutes, he tested positive next day after waking up tired. I never had any symptoms and didn't test. When we had the Delta version last year, it was rough for a month.
