Freeze Proof Spigot

On one of the outside spigots on the house it takes water forever to come on. Whenever I turn the water on, it literally takes 30 seconds to a minute or longer before the water will come out of the spigot. I took it apart last week and didn't really see anything, but then I don't know what I was looking for either.:whistling:

I'm guessing it is sticking or something. The knob isn't hard to turn, just don't get any water. Then finally it'll come out. When I took it apart, it looks to be one of the 12" ones. It came out fine and has a little flexible thing on the end of it - I'm assuming that is the actual valve. Is the little rubber o-ring sticking? Should I just lube it with Vaseline or something?

Good post Cowboy - I've got one that needs to be fixed too (It only leaks when the valve is open). I'm just lazy and hate to turn off the water and deal with all those headaches.

I'd never fixed one before so it was nice to see what should be inside.

I usually just replace it. Tip: when it says remove the hose before freezing weather believe it. Leaking or a bad leak (burst) has happened to me.

When I've had flow problems with mine, it was because wasps moved in and set up a mud nest.

Freeze proof?

Remember the Titanic was totally unsinkable, and sank when it was brand new on the first trip...

Yep, that isn't exactly how mine looks but pretty daggone close.

As far as replacing it goes, I hate to replace it as they are kind of pricey a hose spogot - about $30. Also considering this was just put in with the house less than 2 years ago, seems a shame to replace it. I might take it apart again and have another look at it.

Thanks guys.
