LOL, literally just knocked mine off the frame yesterday afternoon. Was going to have it resealed, but like your electric option for working your drag.

It is a mess of extra you don't need with electric/hydraulic even electric actuators. The newer outboard boats have left fly by wire electric hydraulic recently to go electric actuators eliminating and entire system.

My remote control works just fine from the cab.

Perhaps a dumb question, but when you removed this, did you simply bypass it by connecting the inlet and outlets together where the box was, or did you do it up at the pump & reservoir? Trying to figure out the cleanest way to remove this unit on ours as well.
