Saw an interview with one of the many leaders of the Chicago protests. He was in studio at WGN 9 News and the anchors were asking him for his 'demands' to end the protest.
Gist was that this is an awareness protest and nothing will end it until the protestors decide to end it.
But when pushed to list demands, seems like one of his main focus points was to "forgive all student loans," which I took to mean college loans.
Why?
He actually said (not his exact words): Because corporations got bailouts for no reason so the kids should get them too
Now I didn't support the bail outs then, don't see a reason to support education bailouts either. But those who supported the bi-partisan bailouts proclaimed they "saved" the economy.
Seems like these new demands for school loan bailouts support bad behavior or bad choices. Many who have college degrees and whopping student loans studied in programs that don't yield jobs that pay enough to pay back the loans! That is a stupid choice. Many others took the "5 year plan" and meandered through their education unsure of their major. The 'kid' demanding the bailouts was wearing trendy designer glasses, had his stylish haircut, looked every bit the urban trendsetter (probably using mom & dad's money). So if your education ends up costing you NOTHING then how much is it really worth?
To get something you should earn it.
Want to bailout someone, how about we bail out the disadvantaged student who worked his butt off to attend college, got above average grades and then got a job. That is the one that I might be willing to help.
