Gone But Not Forgotten
My brother in law is in the air right now with his Cessna 210 and his landing gear won't drop down. He is going to have to land on the belly of the plane so any prayers would sure be appreciated. The emergency people are all waiting for him.

Here' hoping for the best . I worked around Acft for better than 20 years . never saw a gear up landing that didn't end well for the crew well . Hopefully this will end the same .

I don't understand why they would set him down on the asphalt rather than the grass next to it but I am not a pilot. I don't know if the fuel was dumped or he had very little left but he set it down and was able to remove himself from the plane but was taken by ambulance to the hospital. All good signs I guess. Thanks everyone I will update when I know more of his condition.

It's excellent news that it went well !
The most likely reason that they use the runway as opposed to the grass ,is that it's a known surface . The grass may contain things like storm drains , etc..

A little bit of flying history in the family. Here is my nephew I posted some time ago. The father is the one that had to set the plane down tonight.

The reason he was taken to the hospital was because of his heart, bad one to begin with so going to the hospital was precautionary.

We are all breathing again. Thanks for your prayers everyone.

 That would sure be nerve racking. Glad it all turned out okay. :thumb:

Dang Murph....that had to be crazy. Has your brother come home yet? We're glad he's ok.

So...does insurance (on the plane) cover something like that? A mechanical malfunction. We're not talking a cheap fix here. I suspect they'd have to try to confirm that just to CYA.

Glad it all worked out murph! It looks like he is an experienced pilot so I'm sure he knew what to do.

He came home last night. The only reason they don't him in was due to he has a bad heart and his blood pressure was extremely high. I guess mine would have been too.

I thought he was able to dump the fuel on his plane, I was wrong he had about 5 hours left when he set the plane down. Also he had one wheel that did come down and then had problems getting it back up but eventually did.

He was lucky that his wife and one of his kids had come out to the airport to pick him up. He could not pick anyone up on his radio so he flew low over his wife and kid, flashed his light and tipped his plane. They knew there was trouble and called 911 which then got another plane in the area to get radio reception.

There is suppose to be some pictures of the plane floating around and if I get them I will post them here.

As for the insurance and who pays I don't know but will ask him next time I see him.

Thanks for all of your support guys and gals. My wife's family is extremely close so up to the landing there was a lot of tears.

Murph , I am so thankful everything turned out ok for the family . Merry Christmas Buddy !

Here is the picture of the plane via a cell phone so not the best. I think he did a dang good job keeping it level and not to lay it on it's side.
