Fogging Insulated Windows#*%$!!!!!!

BigAl

Gone But Not Forgotten
Has anyone figured out a way to fix this when they break there seal , short of replacement ? Every Window in my house is slowly breaking the seals and fogging .These windows cost me big bucks when they were new . The Window Company declared bankruptcy because of this . Now they have reopened in Texas with no responsibilty for the old windows . So far I have paid out about $3000 in new window replacements . I am ready to try taking one apart to see if I can clean it . Anyone tried doing this ???
Otherwise I need to leave about $10,000 on the table for window replacement when I sale my home !!!:4_11_9:

Bad news, Al.

IF you can seperate the panes and clean them without breaking them, they will fog again because they are not designed to ventilate enough (at all) to keep the humidity out of the space between them.

Either learn to like the "frosted" look or replace. :shit5:

I'll 2nd what Av8r said. Actually between the panes in a working window you have a vacum. This dead air space is a great insulator. Once they've broken their seals about the only thing you can do is replace them.

Simington Windows are made in my neck of the woods. They are priced very reasonable for a quality window and can be installed by the homeowner. This makes replacement costs much more reasonable if you wanted to fix it before you sell.

My neighbor found a product that's supposed to fix it. I think he has it but to my knowledge hasn't tried it yet.
I'll find out what it's called and post.

Sounds like you all have told me what I unfortunately knew would be said.

What makes it worst is 11 windows have round shaped tops and are super expensive to replace .
Thanks

What window company is it? Are you sure you have no legal recourse?

No I tried to nail their butts about 12 years ago . They folded right after I purchased my windows . Just my luck . About every 2 or 3 years I replace 2 or 3 windows at about $1500 to $2000 a pop . I got 3 more now to do . I don't want this to become the new owners headache so it is best if I just leave enough money in escrow to pay for all new windows .
I think the window company was called Alanco or something like that . They were based out of Texas . The windows are beautiful with round tops and grids between the glass but they sure have been lousy on holding up .

Since the seal is broken they aren't insulated any more. Can you just remove one of the panes?

Jim

I feel for you, Al.

Every window in my 5 year old house went bad ( 2 years ago) The company gave me new sashes but I still have to stain and seal them all and the majority of them are 16 feet off the ground and crankouts so not easy to replace.
They said they had a bad run of the steel channel/box that goes between the panes.

Lots of windows stacked up in my spare room

I have Andersen triple pane glass in my home, and they have been failing for the past 25 years. As each fails, they would send me a replacement under the 20 year warranty. Once that 20 year warranty was up, they wouldn't replace any more of them. I tried unsuccessfully to have them replace them all since over 50 % failed within the first 5 years. I have not had any fail in the last 2 or 3 years, but I do expect that someday the remaining tri pane glass will fail and need to be replaced. I figure that I will fight with them when that happens. One of the tri-pane skylights failed early one, and the company that made those sent replacements for all the skylights. I think that it is a given that any insulated glass is eventually going to fail at some time in the future. Possibly today, the manufacturing process is a lot better than it was 25 years ago, but I know that I am in for a lot of expense if Andersen won't warranty those that fail in the future.

I just tried there "find a dealer" locator, and couldn't find anyone in New England. I then tried New York City, and once again, no one to be found. I think that the website might be all there is to this company, and they are in start up mode without dealers.

I found a dealer about 125 miles away and sent an email . I too think this is some new venture . If it works ,who cares . Looks like it was developed in Canada . Maybe we should become dealers ,if it works !!!
I will let you know what they say .
