President Trump tapped Florida's US Senator Marco Rubio for a State Department position, which leaves a spot to fill in the US Senate.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis had 2 US Congressional House members openly courting for the open Senate seat. But with a very slim GOP majority in the US House of Representatives, the Governor ended up choosing someone that would not reduce the GOP majority and instead tapped Florida AG Ashely Moody.
It should be noted that the US Senate seat vacated by Vice President J.D.Vance has not yet been filled by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine. President Donald Trump has indicated that he supports the idea of Vivek Ramaswamy being put into that seat. Ramaswamy resides in Ohio with his family and has several companies there.

DeSantis appoints Florida AG Ashley Moody to replace Rubio in the Senate
DeSantis said he wanted an individual with a proven record to fight for President-elect Donald Trump's agenda
Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis on Thursday appointed state Attorney General Ashley Moody to replace Marco Rubio in the U.S. Senate.
"Today I am proud to announce that I am selecting our Attorney General Ashley Moody to serve as our next U.S. senator," DeSantis said during a press conference.
The governor said he wanted a senator with a proven record to fight for President-elect Donald Trump's agenda on immigration, the economy and the America First.
Trump appointed Rubio to serve as secretary of State under his incoming administration, which resulted in DeSantis having to appoint a replacement.
Since the House has such a slim GOP majority, DeSantis didn't choose a member from the House Republican conference. . . .
