Fix your damn fences!

muleman

Gone But Not Forgotten
Had visitors again driving the dogs nuts. Had to go down and tell the neighbor to come and get his critters back. The other yahoo has had his cows up in the neighbors pasture for 7 weeks now. Folks need to get off their asses and put up decent fence.:hammer:

I can't hardly blame the horses. Their pasture is for shit and even though they are feeding round bales they are old bales from at least a year ago. Compare that to fresh alfalfa and clover that is just starting to grow back and they will roam if not well fenced. This seems to be an every 6 months deal. I have had all kinds of other peoples animals up here in the 6 years we have been here. Mine have never left their pasture and my other neighbors have new high tensile on their pastures. These folks string half ass barbed wire and it is always kids doing it. They need to be out there showing them how to string wire.

Had a part-time "cattleman" around here who couldn't keep fences up. His calves were always out on the highway right of way. Somebody finally turned him in to the county and he had to pay a fine for not keeping his livestock confined.
What would the Sheriff do in your county?

Sherrifs are real intimidated and PC around the Amish. They would need me to meet them to even find our place. Rare if ever you see one down in this area.

Well they also would like my Blueberries and a bunch of the flowers and shrubs. The one went over to the feeder cause he remembers eating corn last fall. The berries are ripe and real sweet this year. Bear just tore a bunch of my neighbors wrapped bales open so they will be around here too.

Mule, FYI, horse meat, if hung well is actually decent eating(if you can get past the dog food smell). Otherwise, the cats and dogs would appreciate the enrichment of their diet.

Sure is a lot greener there than here.....any exposed lawn to the sun is very brown here. Just the weeds are green. Good for you at least some one is in better shape.

Regards, Kirk

Wish my pasture was as green as that hayfield. As it is I don't know if we will get enough growth to make it worth a second cutting. We have gotten 4 in a good year. My fresh seeding needs this rain desperately. The roots are not deep enough yet to sustain it in the temps we have been having with warm winds. Forecaster just said harder rain towards dawn so it will really help. When I mowed the pasture today the dust was flying. What you see green around the house is from sprinklers. That stripe is where I fell asleep and left it run all night.

Muley, I wish that you hadn't posted this. :hammer::hammer:

I've had fences to fix for well over a month and just haven't started on it yet. It's just been so damned hot that I can't force myself to go out there and do it. I may set it back to a fall project after coming back from Colorado. There's no animals involved and so no desperate rush but you know how it is, you identify the work that needs done and it preys on your mind when you don't do it.

I am glad we are getting some rain so the fencer hits nice and hard. The bee yard is off the same fence and I want it hitting good for the bear. Been so dry I was worried about it not delivering a good zap.

What no open range back there?

I agree with Lobo bet my cats would love the horsemeat. Heck if I were hungry enough I would eat it.

I got 2 nice fat British white beefers in the pasture. And lots of well fed deer to eat before old Amish horses.

Glad to see that you still got your priorities straight. :yum:

By the way, I ate a horse meat stew about 30 years ago. I didn't like it much. Not that it was bad bad but there sure are a lot better things to eat. I'd have to be very, very hungry before I tried it again.
