First snow, and my first Imp'n

Last week had a good 24" fall over the course of 3 days and I couldn't get access to my cabin until yesterday. Wet snow, snapped of a lot of trees...some blocking the road so took some chain saw action.

Just a couple pictures to wet your whistle. The Imp performed pretty well but for bogging down and coughing when feeding too much gas under load at lower rpms. Pulls fine as long as I'm 2000-2500 rpm, so a bit of a pain getting going from a dead stop. The Solex accelerator pump is weak so she leans out and can stall if fed too much throttle too quickly. Need a larger squirt of gas initially. I've known it to be weak but...of course...was just a minor issue until I moved her up to the cabin. Makes priming for starting cold a bit more difficult too. Will just have to live with it since I don't relish a carb rebuild in the middle of winter in the middle of nowhere (seriously thinking of swaping the Solex for a Webber 34ICH).

Plowed my 100 feet of steep driveway fairly well, though any irregularity causes the machine to pitch front to back, which lifts the blade leaving snow humps. Probably the nature of these machines with the weight of the blade and leaf spring (likely weak) suspension. But running down the road being mellow in 1st gear rear/2nd up front went well and steered well, though ever so slightly wants to keep angling to the right. Both tracks brand new and tensioned identically. May try loosening up the right brake band operating arm a bit in case maybe it's too tight.

Whatever....enjoyed myself for the maiden voyage. Sorry no video footage this time around...kinda had my hands full!
Feedback is more than welcome.

Awesome! Pilot jet too lean? I just cleaned the four carburetors on my DIY cat, what a HUGE difference, pilot jets were marginal. Starts instantly, idles perfect now. I'd say tear into that sucker.

Videos please;)

Most likely pilot jet is too lean. I have it set for lean best idle via the mix adjustment screw. Ran fine at 1200' elevation, but a different story at 3500'. I think I'll open up that mixture screw until the idle starts to drop then lean it out just a touch...the opposite of lean best idle in other words. Next time I'm up there.
Then two choices: remove the carb, bring it home and tear into it. Or, go all out and buy a Weber 43ICH 15290.029 as I've been contemplating all along.

I gather those carbs from old granadas and fairmonts. Just rebuild a crappy core and bring it up. advance timing a bit? or did you leave it.
