Fires

It happens every year. Right now the temperatures are 30 degrees above normal for this time of year. The Santa Ana winds are blowing. Today it was 103 here in the Valley. We've got several fires going. Some freeways have been shut down due to the fires and people have lost their homes. I can smell the smoke from the one north of me. It is going to be one Hell of a fire season. Let's pray for an El Nino.

I hear ya Leni...

I pray for El Nino myself. When it comes it will end the drought in the western mid west too...

But I don't have fires burning homes down either. 103 is too damn hot for May out there isn't it? With wind, what a furnace!

Regards, Kirk

That is scarey Leni. I saw a news report which said they had evacuated over 14k folks from their homes. I saw home burning and the fire fighters had to watch as they could not stop the fire storm. The winds are amazing, and destructive in the way they move the fires.
Take care and best wishes for you. If you smell the smoke you are to close for comfort. I'll be thinking of you and all the poor folks in the path of this destructive fire.

The temperatures will get back to normal tomorrow which is around 70. With the winds blowing the way they are the smoke and ashes travel for miles. The fire is very dangerous if you are near it. It can move faster than a man can run. It's several miles away from me so I'm not in any danger.

I'll never forget the fires from when we lived in Cal.

We had our boat in Ventura, but drove down to San Diego one weekend. We had heard about the fires, but damn it's a big state and never witnessed one.

As we were coming over the hills between LA and Ventura, the sun set light was coming from the wrong direction. The sky was that nice bright/deep red of a beautiful sunset. As we topped the hill and came out looking over the valley, we saw the fires.

Holy Crap!

Once we got into Ventura, we drove over to the mountains. If you've never seen these fires, you can not believe the height and intensity; like the end of the world.

I remember many years ago when the fires in Ventura and Los Angeles joined into one massive fire that went all the way to the ocean at Malibu. People took their horses down to the beach.

I was on the roof of my house. The Valley was ringed with fire. There was fire in all directions.

Our county(El Dorado, east of Sacramento) has sent a Strike team down there. An engine from my District is on that Strike Team.

It's cooler today and the Santa Ana has stopped blowing, at least here in the Valley. However, the San Marcos fire doubled in size overnight.

Doc now it's 124K evacuated from their homes. We can smell the smoke from those fires in San Diego all the way up here. The good thing is that so far there are no deaths and I haven't heard of any serious injuries.

You know, every time I watch the news and they report fires in the San Diego area I think of you. You and your family stay safe now, you hear!!!!

It is beyond horrible. I am in a safe zone but they have arrested three people who have supposed to have started fires. A man that is 51 and two teens. One who is 17 and another who is 19. GOD! Don't they have any idea of how much pain they cause?
