Firefighting helicopter down, 9 lost

Slightly more details available, none good.

It apparently burned due to a bad crash on takeoff, not due to falling into the forest fire as I first indicated.

Others on the ground got the few survivors out, all burned badly.

Those poor guys. One of the survivors had been a firefighter for only a few days.

I'm just sick about this......These guys were already exhausted. They don't even know who I am but but my heart goes out to them, and their families.
Redneck has wanted to do this every year and thank God this year he admitted to being to old for it.

On Monday, I was one of two people representing my department at the funeral of an 18 year old firefighter who died on his first day at the job in California. While it was very sad and depressing, I was honored to have been able to attend. The young man sounds like he was a real neat guy who died doing what he loved. Here is a link to the story with optional video (my truck is one of the ones in the procession).
Bone

I send my deepest sympothy & prayers to his family, friends and Department.

[Bone, thank you for 'serving', fighting the 'red draggon'. I spent 15 years as a vol. ff., & loved it. I just couldn't afford to take the loss of wages to do it full time. I only got out of it because of family commitments coming first, and the politics wanted more than I was able to give. (A 'regular' was put over the vols., one that I still believe looked down on volunteers as 2nd-rate, & did not really want them/us around.)]
