Financial company

Some time ago posted on the subject of getting a financial advisor and if it would be worth the time. Well, it made my wife and I think about our future, so by "accident" we ended up talking with Ameriprise (you'll see their adds on T.V from time to time).

After six months or so we dropped them.

VERY large organization who's left hand doesn't seem to know what it's right hand is doig so to speak.

One reason why I stopped chewing tabacco is for insurance rates.

Well, I never go for the lowest price in town, but I do compare to see what I'm paying for and what I'm getting. Let's just say just for term insurance, Ameriprise seems to be smoking crack, and on their other insurance rates, has been the highest premiums I've found. This after paying them money to tell me how to spend MY MONEY with THEM?? :confused2:

Needless to say, I requested my money back, they can't seem to even get a standard form letter out right, and their home office out of state has NO CLUE what people they have working for them at their local branch.

Company seems more like a big insurance company run amuck.

Felt real bad at first calling my "financial advisor" telling him my wife and I wanted to drop his company. He seemed like he had integrity and had some "smarts for the business", but then I found out he left the company, and then didn't feel to bad about it.

Isn't Ameriprise the old American Express Financial Services?

Although I've never worked with them, I'm a bit surprised on the lack of service you've received.

Not so much a lack of service, but a feeling of dealing with a company so big they can't even get your name right and if you ask them what time of day it is, they need to verify it with five other people.

Just got a letter from their home office today as a matter of fact, informing us of who replaced our old avisor. Problem is the new person (advisor) is about eighty miles further away :confused2: Wife today talked with our new "appointed" advisor (sort of moot anyway because we know we don't want to deal with them) today, and she informed us she didn't know why she was assigned to us due to the travel distance. She did however tell us that the girl who usually does these type of "transfers" (clients to advisors) has left the company after ten years.

When I'm currently paying close to $350/year for 250k for term life with another company, and they (Americprise) wants $800 a year for 100k of term life, well, I'd like to know what I'm getting and how it pays. After digging more in depth, as mentioned, they must be having a crack party and I wasn't invited.

Bottom line, Ameriprise spent all of their time trying to talk us into investing most, if not all of our money into insurance. Guess who owns the insurance company we were supposed to put our money into? Low and behold, Ameriprise.

Just wouldn't reccomend them to anyone.
