So we finally got the new cat out. Technically, I think this is a Track Master. Did great, even with cut down tracks:

Well, it did amazingly well. A bigger footprint might have been an advantage, but she never even threatened to get stuck. Pretty good snow conditions today though....

The standing joke is I tell them "Your cameras sure do take good pictures" and they say "Your wrenches sure do fix things well"....
 
So tell us compared to the other machines you have ben around how does the "antique" Snow Trac fair? I know I am still impressed with mine, all things considered. I think they do rather well, considering the low HP they have. They seem to do alot on a gallon of fuel too.

In regard to the other machines I have had, I am impressed by the ST (or TM to be exact, sort of). We did have good snow consistency, so that is always a plus. The TM far outperforms the 1500 I had, although that machine had a full body and summer tracks, and we had horrible "sugar snow". I don't kn ow that it will pull like my 1202B did, but it pulled a drag quite easily and uses less fuel. More HP would be nice, but it does amazingly well with the engine it has. I may change the carb and add electronic ignition, but no immediate plans to re-power it.
I drove the TM up some pretty steep stuff this weekend, sidehilling, breaking trail, and cruising on a semi-groomed trail...zero complaints.
Considering the size, ability to handle powder, passenger capacity and trailerability, I give the rig high marks all around. I suppose you could spend more and come up with something similar, but I think we are talking about spending ALOT more $$$.
I like it, the wife likes it and the dogs like it, I'm calling it a win!

Get me a pic of the deflectors you are talking about. I see some bracklets, but don't really know what or how to add the missing components...

Yes when the temps warm up you will need some snow deflectors and a set of ice scrapers for the front drive gears. Other wise ice will form on the grouser backs and build up around the drive gear and streach your track and possibly break an axle housing in the process. TM's had the ice scraper as optional equitment when they were made. My snow deflectors are made of a couple of semi mud flaps and mount such the the deflect the ribbon of snow comming off the back wheel and inner track line, and shoot it out the side of the machine well enough that I can see it while driving. In the deep stuff it is alot of snow...

Doug the way it steers is what makes it so great. I'm quite happy with how mine the 1776 single port makes good hp ,and in my dry snow the missing deflectors aren't a concern . what I like the most is lots and lots of heat ,the heaters do work good in the snow tracs. spend about a hundred bucks vdo makes a cht gauge set for a bug, the electrical harness can be shortened up for the snow trac ,I think it is the one thing that was forgotten on the snow trac.
 
Really nice photos. Great to hear your review and first impressions too. That thing looks like it has some serious traction. I had mine out today as we'll. 4 kids and 3 adults in about 1-2 ft of heavy wet fresh snow. Windy and drizzly but we all had a great time.

I ordered a 2 stage Weber carb setup and electronic ignition. Looking forward to seeing how much of a change it makes.

If you likes gauges you should have four then one for each cylinder
Like a aircraft or at least two opposing sides typically I think the oil cooler side runs warmer if you only run one
 
if you have the old style oil cooler the #3 cylinder will run hottest if you have the dog house cooler it won't matter I would use #3 any way just to keep things dress right dress.
 
I keep coming back to this one. It looks incredibly deep with the clarity and lighting of the flash. :wow:

Yes I agree, you either have to bring me up there to get that photo with my machine or accept the fact that You are my new background at the work computer.
 
You guys are welcome to come along, Allan and Francie love new photo subjects (bring beer). I do consider myself lucky to hang out with folks who take great pics. I'm happy to accept the celebrity status of being your background.
