film platform

member formerly known as dds
ok you all I was talking with a producer and there is a bit of interest in a snow cat for a filming platform. as you all know Alaska has been a hotbed for filming. it was put to me about a snow cat to film from and my first thought's was nothing I had was suitable . After some talking I suggested maybe a tucker. I haven't signed a deal but I'm now thinking about something like a 4 door 1300 series tucker that would give them some room for gear on the back and a decent sized passenger cabin the machine would be operated on mostly hard packed trails and not used for blazing new trails like Brutis. so you tucker fans over the next 3 or four months keep your eyes open for a tucker Sorry Allen I wont sway to the dark side and get a krusty.

Don,

I think the stock Tucker beds, especially on a four door, are very small. For example the four door I bought had a bed that was six feet wide and four feet long. (And the gas tank sits at the front of the bed taking up one of those four feet.)

Obviously you could make another bed, but even at four feet it overhung the rear frame member by a foot or so.

I routinely see XX44 Tuckers advertised as seating five. Five what? You could put two adults in front, but three adults in back? Not average sized men and certainly not comfortably in my opinion.

My impression is the Spryte/1200 series Thiokols have roomier cabs and substantially larger beds.

I agree I'm figuring either a suburban body or the 4 door allowing for a driver and up to 3 passengers. the other reason for the machine is to have a warm up shack on site. i'v seen the gear they carry and it would have no problem on the little bed you are right that I could fab up another one if necessary but with the pitch and roll of a sprite it wouldn't be a good film platform. as I stated some mods will have to be made as the machine will be traveling over water an escape hatch will need to be fabricated and it will double as a way to shoot video footage. also this will also be an application where a gas engine will be king as they don't want the noise of a turbo diesel
