We just got back from spending nine days in the city at my mothers house so she could spoil her grandkids. My wife stayed home as she had to work. It's only 3 hours away but it's still a vacation to us. The kids went swimming most days at a local pool. We went to a walking park complete with petting zoo, train ride, playground for the kids, old time logging camp etc.
We also took in the Canada day festivities down at the waterfront including the parade, fireworks etc... Before heading down to the waterfront, we took in a car show with around 50 or so old cars.
We were busy the whole time.
In no particular order, first pic is my kids one the train ride. Second is my oldest son on the right fighting another kid. Third is a pic of the marina. Fourth pic is of a local landmark that member Norscaner might recognize. Fifth pic is of the back of the small train that took us for a ride.
