A former FF member is asking help for a Cambodian man and family he met on his travels. If the need weren't great, he wouldn't ask. Anything you can contribute would be greatly appreciated. CG

As some of you know I travel to Cambodia from time to time. Some visits back I was hit by a motor cycle while riding my bicycle in Siem Reap. I was concussed and incurred quite a few cuts and bruises but overall was pretty lucky and was over it in a matter of days. However on that day while being dazed I met this sidewalk mechanic who repairs bicycles and motor cycles. The first thing I noticed was that this guy had useless legs from polio, and the second thing I noticed was he had an abscess the size of a tennis ball on his arm just above his wrist. He gets around on the ground using his arms and has to be one of the most determined and hard working people I have seen. He repaired my bicycle but I felt I could not just leave him without investigating his well being further. I called my wife on the phone to come and look at him (she is a registered nurse). She was very concerned that without treatment within a few days it could poison his whole body with disastrous result. We had a lengthy talk with his wife and gave her some money to take him to the doctor. When we saw him on our next return visit to Siem Reap his arm had healed.

This man lives and works in the most primitive environment that words could not justifiably describe. He and his family live in an open shanty behind his work. He has 7 children under 16 years of age and the youngest is 7 years old. They are well mannered kids. He has obviously devoted his life to ensuring they are educated.

Yesterday the oldest girl sent me an email telling me that her father was hit by a car while riding his three wheel scooter. She also sent me graphic pictures of his injuries but I have decided that I will not post them for obvious reasons. He has had one leg amputated and at this point in time is in emergency theatre for something to do with his stomach.

Unfortunately the medical care in Cambodia is reliant on how much you can afford, and this guy can afford very little. I am very concerned about what will happen to the children as he will have no income for some time. This man and his family need more help than I can give. So I am asking if you can assist with monetary donations please use the paypal donate button below or send me an email @ vin_dowd@yahoo.com
Thanks everyone for listening, I hope someone can see it in their hearts to help someone so much less fortunate.
