Early Winter ???

BigAl

Gone But Not Forgotten
I am willing to bet it is around here . Already down into the 30's at night now . We still have a ton of stuff to do before the snow flies :w00t2:

Feels like fall here already. We probably got less than 5 real summer days this year.

We are glad we went to Couer d'Alene a week ago since it was nice and hot and the beach was good. That was our summer.

We had that heat wave twice here in PA, with heat indexes in the triple digits several times, many more than usual. but this past week or so, it's actually been chilly at night, and brisk in the morning. Gonna be an early autumn, and a cold cold winter, i predict.

I'm not counting on anything with NW Ohio weather.
We seem to have gone to two seasons only.
Coats because your ass is freezing.
No coats because you are boiling.

I heard from some friends up in Canada that the geese have already started their southward migration. That's at least one month early so they're expecting a nasty winter as well.

There are two big flocks hanging in a local field and tearing out the clover in the oats stubble. I thought they had been run off the lake early but maybe they are flying south already.

I study many things to determine if we will have a early winter .

Like my Indian friends,` I watch the acorn drops and the fat on the deer . Things of that nature . One sure sign is to watch the "White Man ". He seems to be cutting firewood and a lot of it . The Indians are nervous:sad:

Anyone hear what the Indians are saying? I heard they have a new chief this year, and the men came to him and asked him if it was going to be a hard winter this year. He told them he would consult with the spirits of the elders, and they should go cut firewood while they wait.

After they left he called up the National Weather service and asked them if it was going to be a hard winter. The answer was "probably". When the men came back with their loads of firewood he told them the spirits of the elders said it was going to be a hard winter, so they should go cut more firewood.

While they were gone he called the weather service again and asked them if they were sure that is was going to be a hard winter. They told him "yes, we're sure. It's going to be a hard winter". When the men once again returned he told them to go cut more firewood.

Once more the chief called the weather service and asked them how they knew it was going to be a hard winter. The answer was "Because the indians are cutting firewood like crazy!"

Critters know long before we get the drift, but actually, it did cross my mind the other day that we may be in for an early, harsh winter. I could not even begin to explain my reasoning, but it was there, a sudden and fleeting thought. Its hot as hades over here at the moment, but we have had some overcast days recently. Not cold, just overcast..

I have been seeing wooly bear caterpillars already. Just hope they soon bring my other load of wood. We got the most rain we have had in over 2 months today. Even rained out the Nascar race at Watkins Glen.:hammer: More is on the way and they have flood watches for low areas. We had most all we got soak right in so far.

If you folks notice, it got cold a little early last year, and hot early this year. I think we have gotten a seasonal shift of a month or so.
